mp3 player?

Has anyone figured out how to put an mp3 player into this thing without replacing the whole stereo? I'm curious abou the sat plug connector, if that could be reused instead for an mp3 player or some ort?

I doubt the car is a pre-amp out to run to another device.. has anyone cracked their dash open yet?

Certainly there must be something more elegant than that? (like in dash) Damn these integrated funky stereos, I wonder what the aftermarket is going to do without standard DIN sizes anymore. More and more of the cars have it all integrated together. I like the way the acura TSX did it, you can add a mp3 player as an option without cutting up the dash. I'd love to junk that cassete player for something more useful.

I got sony mp3 changer FM modulated and I'm happy with that even the sound quality isn't the best.

I think there are a couple of good options, other than slicing up the dash.

There's the Neo mp3 system, trunk mounted with a remote display.

The Phatbox is a really sweet system, connects to the existing system in your car.

You can use the Kenwood Music Keg with the FM adaptor

None of these are cheap, but they're all good options.

You might want to check out:

To get an idea of some of the options. I personally like my iPod coupled to my aftermarket Kenwood through a line adapter (very clean sound). I expect to fashion a better mount for it when I get the chance. You could hook a handheld up through an FM modulator through the antenna line and lose very little quality.

While a handheld doesn't make the most amount of sense on the surface, the ease of use and security is excellent with an iPod...

I used to do this and never had any issues with it.

The only problem I ever really had with the tape player was that my HU wanted to keep auto-reversing the adapter (which on my adapter, a Sony ceased the music completly). This became very annoying very quickly.

Also, while perfectly acceptable, the sound quality isn't as good as a direct line-in. There has been several discussions in the past about adapting an MP3 player aftermarker CD-changer through the stock Maxima CD-changer lines. I believe the consensus was that the audio was brought into the HU as data rather than a discreet audio signal. I think that I remember the consensus being that is was just short of impossible to adapt.

Good luck in any event. The 2nd gen iPods are on clearance and I have seen them as low as $250 for 20 GB....

I have an iPod with both a cassette adapter (sounds just fine for my casual driving around town etc.) and a Belkin FM transmitter... they both work great.

The Belkin FM transmitter can be found here... works with all portable mp3 players with a headphone jack...
