The post you quoted (although appreciated) actually complements what I've been saying all the way to the previous page on this thread!!! That is when many publications use manufacturer for info like turning circle and fuel tank capacities (we presume Edmunds doesn't measure those two things themselves). Consumers Reports is one of the exceptions.

Hence when Edmunds has an error, it's likely their source (manufacturer press kit and released specs, manual, etc.) is in error. Someone above also posted about an erroneous fuel tank capacity and given that most publications don't measure fuel capacity, I believe that too was from possibly an error from a misprint from an early release of manufacturer specs.

My experience with error-prone manufacturer press kits comes from running my high school auto club eons ago. Manuals have errors; my 2003 Chrysler T&C (3rd year of production for its generation) owners manual has several mistakes including being off 0.5 quarts on the oil capacity. And of course, everybody here has encountered numerous car publication goofs. Heck I sold Toyotas for 4 years during the college vacation breaks and I found inaccuracies in the salesman resources!!!

A V6 rental Mustang with 225/55R16 and a S/C SVT Cobra with 275/40R17 is separated by 4.6' of turning circle. And as I mentioned before a 1989 Prelude 4-wheel steer and 2-wheel steer are separated by 3 feet. The base Altima 2.5 and Altima 3.5SE are separated by 1.3'. '03 Honda Accord sedans are all the same. At any rate a huge approx. 5 feet turning circle difference from such a modest spread in overall tire diameter and section width between the different 5th gen. Maxima trims just strikes me as awefully suspect and should raise eyebrows with any versed car enthusiast.

At any rate Maximas rule!!! Enjoy mes amis!!!

OKAY, we all agree the turning radius sucks... If you turn on gravel it may be a little wider due to the slippage.... Who gives a crap... Move on peeps...

As you can see, turning radius went down the toilet with 17" and larger rims. On the 5th Gen models they had to add some sort of rubber stopper to prevent wheel rub vs the 16" and smaller wheeled models which is why the turning radius went up.

My 4th Gen has a nice and tight 34.8' turning radius, and thank god for that because I have to make u-turns everyday. The one I make in the morning I can make with a little room to spare with a 34.8' radius. Our Highlander SUV makes it by the skin of its teeth with a 37.4' radius (source: http://pressroom.toyota.com). I would be screwed with 17" rims.

I agree....what was Nissan thinking when the designed the new Max...a 40' turing radius....come on. The massive Q45 has a 36.1' turing radius. My Dad's Chrysler LHS; a 14" longer car has a better turing radius by 2.4'. My neighbors Lincoln Town Car a 215.4" long, 78.4" wide land yacht has a 39.9' turing radias.

I wonder if it is because of the big tires and rims, not sure... it is an annoyance though

After my humbling enlightenment by SteVTEC, I truly think at least with the 5th gen. Maximas that Nissan really went 'doh' when they found out 17" rims would have massive clearance issues to force a 40' turning circle on a mid-sized passenger car. From what's said, that all means that GXE 5th gen. guys who don't know better are going to get a rude awakening when they go JUST PLUS ONE sizing on their rims.

Looks like Nissan would have learned from their mistakes on the 5th gen, and engineered the 6th gen with a smaller turning radius even with the large wheels/tires.

I dunno... when I go shopping for a car, turning radius is not a deciding factor... *shrug*

Exactly!

I just plan on having to perform many more 3-point turns.

odd how so many people complain about the size, and then the turning radius, but love the 18" rims..

Big sideways engine + 18" rims = big turning radius... of course, they could have extended the hood and jammed the wheels out to the corners, ala the intrepid (which I rented for vacation and it sucks bad), or they could have just widened the car, but neither of those would have been a suitable option for anyone here.

guess what, if you want your cake, and you want to eat it, deal with it... if not, go to another bakery.
