Boy lots of fuss about the 5th gen being faster. For what its worth not only is my 2004 faster in all accpects than my 2002, but it is alot more fun to drive. Like any racing though, so many conditions will affect the outcome. Being that I have owned a 2002 and now own I 2004 I can tell you that the 2004 is a better car, enough said.

Far too many variables for the 'race' in the initial post to have any meaning whatsoever.
Do we even know if both cars were using the same brand/octane gas? Did both drivers weigh approximately the same? How do we know both cars left the starting line at exactly the same instant? A tiny fraction of a second difference in floorboarding the pedal would easily make a carlength or two difference at the end of the race.
Totally meaningless. These cars were not intended to be race cars, anyhow.
I am more concerned with the dearth of cars on the dealer lots, the flaky fuel gauge, the shimmy at certain speeds, misaligned muffler/tailpipe assemblies, etc, etc.

It is a dry heat, and I would take this over mid 90's and 80%+ humidity any day. I park in a garage at home, under covered parking at work, and everything is air conditioned here, so it isn't all that bad. Just not going to get a lot of use out of a cold air intake...
BTW, it was 100 degrees on my way to work at 6AM this morning...

haha I grew up in New England and we had weather like that as well, and boy did I hate that!!! It is hot here, but as soon as you get in your car and drive for 10 seconds, it is fine... the humidity kicks your a$$ for a lot longer than that. blah...
On the flip side, it cools off in New England at night, we had a low of 93 last night

I only put my window down at the drive through
Yeah, we broke a record last night with the highest low temperature ever in Phoenix. I read one that said the low was 96, the other story said 99, so I am not sure which it is, but that was the low last night... lol
It is currently 115F and cloudy. It isn't that bad actually, I just dont spend any time out side, no different than people who don't spend time outside when it is snowing in the winter.

Keeping this strictly on climate, that is the most significant difference between Tucson & Phoenix. Tucson cools off so nicely in the evening but Phoenix just stays hot. It's all the asphalt, housing, A/C units humming all night, pools and man-made water features. I remember leaving Rockin' Rodeo a few years ago and when we headed back up north on I-17 to my buddy's house, it was 102 on that Shamrock sign at about 01:30 AM!
I totally agree with you on the staying indoors deal being like winter in other places. The heat really isn't that hard to beat. Air conditioned home, car, office, stores, bars and so on. You have no hazzards on the road, save the Monsoon, and golf is readily available all year.

Carry on...

I don't know about how true it is about him taking the 04 by what he said he did. I own a 2000 Max and the 04 Max and believe me I raced my husband and beat him from 0 to 125 mph 2 times in a row. Also we were on a road trip comming from Louisianna to Texas and my husband took a surprise s curve that was supposed to be 45mph at 90mph with the car trunk fully loaded and 3 passengers, the car stayed flat I could'nt believe we survived, no way could my 2000 have taken that curve, thank God for the Skyline rear suspention on my 04. Raced with an 03 G35 from Houston To Austin in the rain at 95 to 105 all the way except for slow down at small towns. These cars handled great in the rain at high speed. I could never do the manuvers in the 02 compared to the 04. For the non believers go ahead and take them to the slalooms....

You guys should just go to the track anyways. Who cares if it's hot out. Even if it's hot out and your time isn't the greatest, it'd still be better than what this forum has now which is nothing.
If you run in 90F/90% humidity weather, so be it. There are calculations out there that can fairly accurately guess what your time would have been under more standard conditions. And there have been 02/03 owners here that have also run in very poor conditions on which you can compare as well.
Just go to the track or dyno and get some data!

they started @ 60 and went to 130!
if the freaking guy was doing 130 beside another car he knew he was racing.....03 is definatly faster than the 04...the hp rating is 10 hp more for the 04 but it isnt there...the 04 is bigger heavier and les aerodynamic......only advantage the 04 has is the rear end....but it didnt do much to help cornering since they made it a taller car...i drive them both daily and know both of em inside out....but i wouldnt have said it would destroy an 04 though....but its definatly faster

I dont see how the 10 hp cant be there? I dunno. My girlfriend has an auto 02 se. i have an 04 see 6 speed. ive driven her car and it doesnt pull as hard as mine, but I have a 6 speed so i guess it doesnt count.

Well actually i have read about how nissan tends to overrate there cars but im sure they are aware of this problem since So many people talk about it. it wouldnt suprise me if they decided to actually rate them right for there sake.

I will have to wait on some PROOF that nissan has changed their ways regarding this issue....starting with some DYNOS from 6th gen owners........anyone LISTENING.......

I would have to assume, that at the least it is pumping out 10 HP more than the 02/03, since the 02/03 numbers are low. If the 04 are right, then it is 20HP if they aren't, then it is 10 HP.
We won't know for sure until we see the dyno. Hopefully we will get a before and after dyno with the frankencar

Its so hard to believe for the 6th gen people that their maxes are
underachievers with the extra HP- watch out for those GTP's they are your problem not mine

ok anybody with a 02 or an 03 max has to relax... i personly love the 02 03 and 04 max.. there the same car people.. Ive noticed that the 5th gen people are so stuck on there cars. I have never once heard a 6th gen person go into the 5th gen forum and compain about how much they dont like em and argue that there car is faster. I do agree that the maxima is a performance sedan but some people just take speed to far into,"whos the fastest". Im not *****in, Just tired.
