Trunk Rattling in 2004 Maxima from speakers

Just got a new 2004 Maxima with the 320 Watt stereo. I am finding that the trunk cover "rattles" from the bass even when the stereo is not turned up high/loud. I am curious if anyone else is experiencing this problem.

I'm assuming you mean the rear decklid where the two speakers are mounted.
yes, happens to me on the heavy bass at about 30% volume.

I'm planning on messing with the lid this weekend to resolve this, also putting in some racks back there to hold some audio/video equipment, and shoring that up at the same time.

If you really meant the trunklid, I apologize, but I haven't had that problem.

coffeeshark - the rear decklid is absolutely what I am talking about. Sorry about the confusion. I called my Nissan dealer and they want me to bring it in to take a look, although I am figuring nothing can be done. Good luck "messing with the lid" - and hey, if you are able to resolve it, please post it! Would love to know how! Thanks much!

I brought my Maxima back to the dealer and they had to tighten the deck lid and add some foam ... so if anyone else is experiencing this same issue do the same.

Thanks for the info bez... I have some rattling too, but the volume drowns it out for the most part... I am due for an oil change soon, so along with that, and aligning the right exaust pipe with the left, I will have them fix the deck lid too...

My rattles depend on how loud I have the stereo, and what kind of music I am playing at the time... you could usually notice it though... I will have them take care of it in a few weeks when i'm due for an oil change

This just sucks. Exactly same problem 5gen Maxima has, mine 2000 SE had this rattle and now 2002 SE as well.

I don't get how Nissan assembles these cars. Pretty pafetic if you ask me.

I had this problem on my AE but it does not happen on the 2k4. Same CD that would buzz and rattle in the AE is rock solid in the new one. The worst offender that I have is the Office Space sound track. It was unusable in the AE. Go figure.

No problem 04EliteSE - the rattle was able to be drowned out by my music too .. but I wasn't dealing with it anyway Since they tighted it up and added that foam, it's been perfect. And the sound quality has improved also ... guess b/c the rattle is gone! Good luck with it!

I am having the same problem.....it started yesterday actually. Is the rear deck lid easy to assemble/disassemble? I'll take any help you guys can give.....because the vibration is annoying.

woodogga ... I didn't try to take it apart.. I went right to the dealer.. that's what the warranty is for. They added some foam and all... and I am all set. so that is my recommendation. Good luck!

I experience this same problem.....I think it's the middle brake light cover vibrating off the windshield. I jammed a little piece of foam between and the rattling is almost a non issue now.

my old bmw had this same exact problem. the dealer actually fixed it for me, but there was a DIY fix. the jist of it was to figure a way to stuff a hand towel in between the speaker deck and shelf. you can try searching for "towel fix" in the www.bimmer.org e46 3 series forums.

i just made my deal for a new 04 6 speed elite last night... and am figuring the speaker issue will come with it. hopefully, they will know how to handle fixing it.

Thanks for the tips, guys.....I'm going to be bringing it in today to get fixed, along with the instrument panel being replaced. For those of you buying an 04 Maxima, be wary of the fuel gauge.....it likes to get stuck on E. I'm having that replaced today, and it should fix the problem. Should we be having these problems so early in the car's life? I hope Nissan didn't put quality aside, just to release these cars early.....that would be a shame. Anyways, I'll let you know what the dealer does for the rear deck vibration.....thanks again!!!

This is when you are going to have these types of issues, the pains of buying a first year car. So far all of the issues have been minor.

i agree with gmc74. most things are minor problems that if taken care of by the dealer promptly without any grief will be expected. now if the dealer wants to be an @ssh0le then things are different of course.

Did you ever get this fixed? If so, what did they do?
I just discovered a rattle after four months!!! I can't stand it! My oil change is due in about a week. So I'll mention it to them then. It's rattling right behind the brake light. Not only does the music make it rattle, going over bumbs will do so too!!!

LDLDL ... as I said, I brought it in to my dealer and they had to tighten the deck lid and added some foam under it for support (obviously not visible) .. but the rattling is gone. had that done over a month ago and no problem since

Took my car in last week for an oil change and to adjust the misaligned tailpipe. Since I didn't have time to wait at the dealer any longer, I am taking it back tomorrow morning and leaving it there so they can fix the rattle. They acknowledged that there was a TSB out for that issue at least...

Anybody having the speaker rattle issue on the doors? I'm thinking all this Outkast must be rumbling some sh*t loose on mine.

If I were Nissan I would void the warranty for that. Maybe build into the system a hip hop detector that disables the car or something...

Just went out and did a test on my SL with some DJ Magic Mike (Old School). No rattling, but if I keep playing it, I'm sure I'll loosen up something?

Had my o4 at Nissan yesterday for an oil change and a rattle. They tightened the rear speakers and the rattle is gone. Good luck all.

Tailpipes were aligned and the speaker rattle from the back was fixed. They just tightened some things up, and added padding. Sounds much better now... color me happy!

Were did they put the padding, I have the same problem and I took it to the dealer and they said there is nothing they can do it is not a Nissan recall. I was like what the hell and just left, figured I would just go to a nother dealer but I have not had the time.
In the meantime STILL RATTLEING
