Crazy Fog Light Mod Idea

Last night I was screwing around with the foglights and I started thinking about the turning lights on the corners of the car.

They illuminate the sides and edge of the road really really well. Which is pretty much how I judge where I am on the road during heavy fog.

Do you guys think it would be a worthwhile mod to get them to come on with the fog lights. I'm picturing a switched relay that triggers when the fogs are on sending power to the side lights. A small switch installed in the dashboard to control wether they are on or off. Obviously you wouldn't want them on every time the fogs are on.

Hooking up the turning lights to a switch is probably a good idea, but if you hook them to a switch...then there's no point in also hooking them to the fog lights.

Well I'd want them to go off/on when the fog lights are off/on. And to be able to leave them off too.

I too like to be able to see edge of the road in fog or hard rain. I wonder if the glare caused by light projecting from the side of the car would be a problem.
I don't know what they were thinking when they placed the fog lamps at the same level as the headlamps. I guess they would have less glare by virtue of their 'low intensity discharge' bulbs. But would you even know they were on? The HIDs are still burning bright when the fogs are turned on. What is the point? It was the same on my 2k1, it didn't have HIDs and the fogs were dim in comparison.

Are they supposed to be driving lights and not fog lights? They still suck for all the above reasons except that with driving lights it makes sence to have the HIDs on too.

Do you know if the aftermarket miniature fogs are worthwhile? I'm thinking a combination of mini-fogs integrated in the black band and the 5th gen re-wire so that the fogs can be on even when the HIDs are off may be the answer.

When/if body kits are ever made for the g6 they will probably incorporate fogs low and outside. I don't want to skrew with that though.

For most (or all) OEM applications, the low beam HIDs are not turned off when you switch on your high beams or fogs, etc. Considering the few seconds it takes to start up to full brightness, it would not make sense to switch off the low beam HIDs.

Imagine if you were driving on a dark road with your high beams, and then having to switch back to your low beams because of oncoming traffic. If you had to wait for your low beams to start up and reach proper color, you could possibly wreck your car.

On the '04 Maxima the same HID bulb is used for low and high beam function, it isn't two bulbs. This is my first set of true HIDs so I don't know any better but there is no perceptable lag from the time the switch is turned on until they are at full brightness.

You're right. 2004 Maxima uses a solenoid to move the bulb shield, thus achieving high beam immediately. There is only one bulb.

Compare to 2002+ Altima, the HID is only LO while HI is halogen.

And when the headlamps are off they are turn on instantly with no lag or warmup time.
