Nav System - Metalized Tint interference??

Now this is new. I'm calling around to get prices on a tint job and they told me that since I have a nav system that they have to use a special film that costs a bit more.

Anyone ever hear of this?

No, but I'd like to find out more. What kind of tint did you want a quote for?...Metalized?

The metalized tint will not interfere the navigation sytem on the Maximas. But it dose to some other Navigation systems.

Correction... The metalized tint, DOES affect the nav system.

Just had my car tinted on Wednesday, and didn't notice until Thursday.
In areas where I always got a "green" indicator for signal, I'm not getting "yellow" about 20% of the time. What affect does this have? During the constant yellow, I go through an intersection and the gps thinks I'm about 50 feet behind the intersection.

I don't know if I'm going to get it switched out. The people that did the tinting will switch to a non-metalized film but they say it's completely dyed and will fade to a "purple" after a year or 2.

GPS signals do not propagate through metal. Actually, they bounce right off of it. I'm not sure where the antenna is located on the 6th Gen, but if it's covered up by metallized tint then it could definitely knock down the signal strength.

The more birds you have locked in, the more accurate your fix will be. Metallized tint will not allow the receiver to bring in the more marginal satellites, so maybe you'd only have 3 or 4 locked in instead of 6 or 7. It can make a big difference.
