How do you install a spoiler?

Looking at a custom spoiler for the 6th gen on Ebay, and just wondering how something like that would be installed on the trunk when there are no holes already drilled in the trunk? Do you basically just drill through the metal, or what? Your advice is appreciated!

Basically drill through the metal. There may be a template for that included with the spoiler.

You'll probably have to remove the lining on the trunk lid. Though depending on what kind of fasteners come with it you may not have to.

Order one and tell us.

I assume you are going to need to have it painted to match your car, whether you do or don't, you can always pay a shop to put it on.

I think I'll wait to see what the instructions say when I get it, and then decide from there. I think its a pretty good deal, painted spoiler for $135! It's on Ebay through www.spoilerdepot.com. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=2432722774

Received my rear lip spoiler from Courtesy Nissan 4 days ago and two days ago (Saturday, Sep 13, 2003) I installed it myself. The rear lip spoiler cost me $186.00 plus shipping. The spoiler came with all the instructions (template) and parts needed to install it. I had to drill 5 holes. The instructions tells you how to install the template, but instead of the inch/foot length, it tells you in millimiters. So have your millimiter and inch conversion ready. It took me an hour to install it.

Sounds like its not TOO difficult. Is the spoiler you got the same as the factory one, or more like the style I'm looking at on ebay (see link above)? How will I hook up the LED light on the spoiler, is there a loose wire inside the trunk just waiting to be hooked up?

You'll have to drill a hole for the wire to pass through. It will be run down one of the sides of the spoiler where it attaches to the trunk lid. From there you'll have to get it down to the brake lights. Likely just running it down one with the wiring harness that is there for the licence plate lights. I'd suggest zip tieing it to that. Run it back to the trunk and around to the brake lights, or to the 3rd brake light wiring harness.

You'll tap into the brake light wire. Wiring it in parallel with one of the existing brake lights. Also please disconnect or take the bulb out of the existing third brake light on your parcel shelf. It'll look ghay otherwise.

ouch! drilling holes in your trunk? pay somebody to do it...i got price quotes for $25-$70 for mine to be put on...i just need to make an appoitment...i am going with a guy who will do it for $60 because his pictures of other installs are beautiful...

just imagine if you drilled holes, installed it and figured out that it was too high on your trunk...$60 doesn't sound that bad.

not to rain on your parade, but i would be suspect of anybody that can't put a pic up of the acutal spoiler on an 04 max...his ad is showing a g35 with the wing...

what happens if the wing is not wide enough, then it may look stupid...but i haven't done any research as to trunk width max vs. g35 so i don't really know what i am talking about...

but then again, you may get a different spoiler altogether...buyer beware...especially off of ebay

I was told by a dealer that installs the same spoiler that the infiniti spoiler fits the Maxima. Then he showed me a black SE with the spoiler installed. Looks like it's supposed to be on the car standard.
