That's interesting. So you can now remove just the LCD cover for cleaning. The way it's worded suggests that earlier versions were not built so that just the cover can be removed.

I saw a service manual CD on Ebay today starting at $9.99. If I knew it would work as a stand-alone product I'd buy it.

Also,
I read that the shifter **** comes off a little different, not just unscrewing etc. Any descriptions of the shifter plat removal and or **** would be great... I'd rather do this than the dealer clowns

Ok...I did it...I cleaned up the LCD Screen myself. Here are the instructions:

1. Open the cup holder compartmenr by the parking brakes...and remove the actual cup holders.
2. Put up the parking brakes.
3. Pull up the edge of the pewter plastic boot...this is the edge you see from the cupholder compartment.
4. you will have to play with the stick and change gears (turning the car on) in order to remove the base pewter plate mentioned in 3 (the one that has the hazard blinking ligths).
5. Disconnect the cables and completelly remove the base plate.
6. Right now the next plate to remove is the pewter one that has the opening for the CD changer, casette player and AC. To do this, remove the 2 screws onthe base.....andpull it out.....you will need to disconnect the cable the powers/controls the A/C to completelly remove this plate.
7.Remove the screws that hold in place the dashcluster....and pull the plastic casign out....and boila!!!....you can now clean the screen.....

Yes I had.....note that the NSA (Nissan Service A$$holes) already changed my Nav System Screen twice. So when I wanted to remove the shift ****, I found really easy to do it just because they broke the locks that hold that plastic part of the ****.
In any case, this is how is supposed to be removed.
1. Turn the plastic piece of the **** clockwise (looking atthe shift **** from the rear view mirror). Once it unlocks, push it down.
2. Now look under the leather part of the ****, you will find another lock....pull it out.....and boila.....remove the leather and plastic parts of the shift ****.
