Does redesgned '04 Max fall under wait one year to buy rule?

'04 was first rolled out about feb 03, but full production started Jun 03.
So does that mean, because of redesign, one should wait till Jun 04 to buy, to get out production line kinks?

The issues are pretty minor IMO, although a few people will disagree.

They are minor, but annoying.. I had my car for 2 month's and it will be the third time at the dealer.. 1. Window regulator and crooked pipes.
2. Window regulator (drivers side)
3. Shimmy in the steering.. (taking it in today)

Damn never had these issues with my 98.. Still a great car though, i love it and it hauls ***..

I think that most people who jumped on the bus early are having problems. Order something custom with elite or a different color combo and you will get a car amde especially for you. I think that they have probablly gotten most of the minor issues solved by now it 6 months since the car has come out. Also most cars have problems I think that car enthusiast like us nit pick a little too. Go ahead buy one who cares if you have to vist the dealer as long as you have a good one.

I took delivery of my car in mid April, that was pretty early and I have had one issue. My gauge cluster had to be replaced.

I think its a good idea to wait a year to purchase any new or redesigned car no matter what the make, of course unless its a Bentley or something. Not only will you get better pricing and financing, but also as mentioned most of the "kinks" should be worked out of it.

BlackSE is correct. I have over 8,000 miles since May and will one day get around to taking it to the dealer to fix (based on TSB) the back shelf speaker "buzz". Only major problem I've seen on this site (which I don't have) is the shimmy when driving. And less than one-third of those responding to a survey on another thread on this site have reported having it.

I too love this car. It's the best new car (or any car) I've had since my '65 Vette 4-speed convertable/removable hard top. -- and a lot more dependable and better built. (I have to admit it is my first Nissan.)

Well I don't think anyone was really crying. It does kind of suck when you pay 30,000 for a car and you have some issues.. I am not really picky about my issues because I can understand little problems with a new car. But a shimmy in the steering is unacceptable. It's not when you are doing 90 either.. Also it's pretty frustrating when you go to the dealer and they act like they never seen the problem before. I will say though right now for the price, BEST CAR ON THE ROAD.

No way...I bought my Z06 in 01 first year out and heard the same BS...Had no problems with the car, supercharged it, have not had it back to the dealer! I got my 04 Max 2 weeks ago, no shimmy, no hesitation, just one hell of a car

When I picked up my '98 Altima GLE in March '98 (1st yr of 2nd gen Altima's) I hardly had any major problems within my 1st yr other than replacing the battery and the cd/cass. headunit in the 1st year .... so would I stay away from 1st year production? It depends

Had my '04 SE only 2 weeks now, but I have to say I'm impressed with Smyrna assembly. At least on my car (10/03 build), they did a helluva job. Body panels all line up, paint is flawless, everything works, no rattles. Maybe it was just a good day when mine rolled through, but I ain't complainin' ... if only GM could do so well!

I have the same experience as you, Mike. My car was manufacturered in 9/03, and so far I don't have one complaint (only had it 2 weeks). The paint is flawless, body very solid with no rattles, and everything lines up properly.

It seems to me that they must have fixed the shimmy problem within the first 2 or 3 months of production.

The new TL is having "toothing pains," too.

Check out the "early build problems" thread on their board.:

04 MAX Problems

Major problem with ~35% of both SE and SL 04 MAX's rolling off the line as late as 3 weeks ago, would you play "Russian Roulette" with those odds, DON'T DO IT!!! This vibration in the wheel will make you not want to take long trips in the car, NISSAN can not find a solution.

**Kennedy1111**12/1/03***
Took my 04 MAX SL to the dealership today to have the "Rack Friction Adjustment" performed per reccomendation of a few others on this page. Dealership called NISSAN1 for specifications to go from "design specification" to the "service specification" to adjust the "rack friction". The Technical Department informed the dealership technician that there is no adjustment. The dealership confirmed with me that "the rack" can not be adjusted and is all welded joints. I tend to believe them because they have ordered a "new rack" and will install this $1,500. part at thier expense. Sounds like this will not fix the problem according to your e-mail below. I'm getting so burned out dealing with this problem I wanted to trade it today for a newer MAX without the problem, now it's sounds like there still rolling them off the production line with the same defect, what a bummer...

Purchased vehicle on October 3, 04. Since then I have had the same problem(s). Nine wheels changed, eight tires, one right front axle, right front hub and bearing, and finally the rack itself. Four , four wheel alignments, nine wheel balances, rotated wheels front to back and side to side...... Problem still persists. Vibration seems to ease off after operating temp is reached. Nissan Canada's engineer says vibration and pull to left is acceptable. However he didn't say there was no problem. Having been an IPJ technician for the last thirty years, I think the problem is a pressure difference in the rack itself ? Possibly damaged struts? Has anyone else noticed their steering turns more easily to the left than the right? Steering wheel has a difficult time returning to centre after a left turn. More pressure on the throttle causes more pull to left.

Very disappointed in this so-called "upscale sedan".
