The only problem with my paint was some lot guy thought that he knew what he was doing, and decided he'd try to buff it. Well, it must have been one of his first cars because there were bad swirl marks on it. But a few hours later with some mild polish I got them off and looking good.

No paint problems. I have Majestic Blue also. I did coat the car with a product called Tough Guard (ToughGuard.com) which protects the finish. Five yr. guarn. no need to polish. Car cleans up with little effort. Because of dark color front has to be protected. I use a car bra, carbon fiber on long highway trips.

I have a 5th gen with a clear bra........I have been on here for months recommending the clear bra, though the majority of 6th gen owners have been saying paint chip problems are a 5th gen problem...I think not....

I have a 6th gen (2004) silver since August with 3M ClearBra on hood/bumpers/lights/quarter panels/mirrors/partial rear bumper.

No paint problems! These protection films worth every penny.

Thats about the same with mine. My magestic blue has swirls in the paint but i've told that thats normal, like from brushes or sponges from washing the car. The only complaint with the paint is that it seems to chip easily, i have a nice chuck missin on my hood but not so much on the bumper. I hate how i pride my car so much but everytime i wash it i find more scratches, mostly on my passanger side. With a dark just the simplest thing shows up.

Man, I'm w/ you... My MAX is black, so as you can see, I have a heck of a time keeping the "swirls" and "spiderwebs" from showing on the finish. I messed up when I put my car thru an automated car wash as soon as I brought my brand new car home after a 2 hour road trip from the dealership in Phoenix...plus a few times after that... My past experience w/ putting my white MAX thru a car wash resulted in no noticeable paint flaws...but little did I know that black cars SHOW EVERYTHING! I learned my lesson...and thanks to these MAX forums, I learned to never ever NEVER EVER put your car thru an automated car wash. Has to be washed by hand and w/ the gentle-est of care... Now I wash my car myself under my carport when the sun is down and I use the softest (cotton) cloths/towels to get the job done. (note the many references to "my" and "I"!!!) Hint to those who want to baby their MAX...

Swirling isn't necessarily normal. It is common, but it doesn't have to be, and shouldn't be.

It is true that a brushes and sponges often are the cause of these light swirls, it is because they are too coarse, or the more common one, they are too dirty.

If you were to remove all the wax, and polish the car, you could remove those marks. Then, if you keep a good coat of wax on your car, and use a quality clean wash mit when you wash your car, you can prevent these. Even if you go to a self service car wash, don't use their brush, bring your wash mit. Make sure your wash mit is cleaned after each use.

After removing the underpaid lot slave's poor buffing job, I have had no swirls on my paint. I have no defects, even after a 3000 mile round trip from Washington State to San Diego, with no front end protection other then a good coat of wax. I normally wash the car two or three times a week and wax it every other week. But, I use Meguires quickWAX after most of my washes, so I'm sure that helps. I only recomend this as upkeep, not as a all out wax, like it is intended for. I haven't driven the car over the past month or more, since the weather is bad, so it just sits in the garage, I can see that it has lost some shine just sitting there.

BTW, I believe I have ~8000 miles on my car.

My dealership never mentioned anything about "3m protection" on the exterior.
I live in michigan and we are having a bad winter and i took my car to the local "soft cloth" car wash and was horrified at what i saw on my driver side door.....swipe marks from the rotating "soft cloth" spindles.

This is my first dark colored car and i have to say that it has been nothing but headache after headache.

I will always get silver or a lighter color from now on.......BTW i bought my max in may of 03 and already have 20,189 miles!!

God i luv to drive this car!!!

No paint issues for me. MIne is black, but I do have a clear bra. NO CHIPS

Still I use Zaino to polish the car. Now that I have several coats on it I take it to the touchless (water pressure only) car wash during the winter here in MD. Only once have I taken it to a brushless car wash and really didn't notice any scratches or swirls. (of course that could be thanks to the Zaino)

I have 99 Max SEL. Thinking of trading to 04 seeing what you guys are saying. I always have bras on my cars. I have the vinyl/ Nissan bra, and it keeps dings off my hood. The raised inserts make the aerodynamics push air higher, even bugs hit windshield higher. Have 00 GLE that hit curb, and bra saved foglight when it moved. I would have vinyl over clear. I have seen what they may look like after a while or cats jumping, clawing on it. I have worked in 3 Nissan stores. Good luck. I will be in here hopefully by Xmas 04.
