well, maybe from a roll at 15mph, and your friend just took him with his torque, but tell your friend to race a maxima from 65, 70 mph plus, and he will loose..... GM tends to suck with gearing.....

I've raced a few and with those mods i'd have to say that he is leaving a few things out. From the 3 or 4 i've raced i've never lost, and for the impala that was stock it was just imbarassing(sp?). BTW...i'm a 4th gen auto and was running mid 14's at that time. I think stock the impala's average is between 15 and 15.5, not 100% sure though.

yeah, ive taken on an impala ss with an Exhuast, and i was gone 4-5 car lengths.. before i shut it down...... and if 6th gens are "quicker" than the 5th, then the 6th gen must've not been trying.... or didnt know the impala was racing... Those cars modded are killer, but anything that has an lt1 or ls1 kill with mods....

yea this guy in his inpala semes to think he can destroy a 04 max. he might launch better considering its winter and he has drag radials, front wheel drive spins alot when its cold.

They arent quicker they are about the same that is the 04 SE to an 02/03 the SL is a tad slower than both.

Ss

Your friend may have been saying he won the race against a Maxima just to get you, but did he say he won it against a 2004 or which one? Im sure he could take a Maxima from like 1997.

I know i made a guy look twice the other day on the main drag around here when i blew his doors off on his jacked up BMW 500 series, couldnt tell which one, cause he shaved everything off.

Plus, even if your friend did beat, was the other person really trying to race him? hard to say... i think you need to take your friend on and show him what GM cars are lacking.... EVERYTHING!!!

I'll be the first to admit the 94-96 Impala SS is one of the most best a$$ rides of the 90s. I'll also be the first to know it takes some work to get one into the 14s. In stock form these things were good for lower 15s@91mph assuming the launch was hard and many go mid 15s stock. An intake which removes all the nasty resonators is definately good for about 8rwhp/10rwtq. The mufflers will do very little. All that work plus the mentioned drag radials, might push this car into the 14.8s at a good track. I'd say 14.9-15.0@92mph is more accurate though. There's a lot of heft to move (4200lbs). To go consistent mid 14s in the SS, it will take some 3.73 gears, headers, intake, catback, MAF, and possibly a revamped ECU.

If the mentioned SS makes 233rwhp then it's power to weight ratio is only around 18:1. A stock 04 autos power to weight is more like 17:1 or even 16:1 if it's a 6 speed. Power to weight owns the game. Of course if the Maxima driver is snoozing at all, the race can easily swing in the SS' favor. Like others said, the SS will get owned after 100mph due to gearing and drag assuming we're talking about a 5 speed auto/6 speed manual.

They're not lacking in # of cylinders.
They're not lacking in displacement.
They're not lacking in TORQUE.
They're not lacking in modding potential.
They *are* lacking in PRICE

I've had a few run ins with my uncle's 94 SS. When he had exhaust, intake, and pulley, I could take him at any speeds up to about 140, then he would walk me in my '98 (intake, Y-pipe, pulley). I usually run around 14.7-14.9 @93-94 at the track.
Now that he did some ECU work, and tranmission (not sure what) work, he now kicks my butt at any speed. So depending on what mods these have, makes all the difference in the world.
