Remote Starter

Has anyone had a remote starter installed on their new Maxmia? I was thinking of buying one as a Christmas gift for my wife. Any suggestions for brand and model?

I would suggest on useing the Valet 561T it works right off of your factory keyless entry. This is the brand I use at work and haven't had any problems with it. It's the same company that makes Viper(DEI) so it's a brand u can trust

I agree with cannon. The Valet 561T is a nice addition of remote starter to existing keyless entry. But if you consider getting alarm system for your car also, then I'd recommend Viper 791XV. It costs more but does everything. It also comes with LCD remote control. Good luck. Ask Don aka Pearl96Max for more information, he is a professional and certified DEI installer.

if you are just looking for remote door lock/open and remote starter, Valet 561T is the way to go. If you want a toy to play with, Viper 791XV

Thanks everyone for your help. I have a Viper alarm/remote starter on my truck and I have been very happy with it. I'm leaning towards the Valet 561T. I'll check out both models at my local DEI dealer.

So the Valet 561T uses the stock keyfob? On the site it doesn't say anything about using the stock keyfob.

If you remote start the car then the stock keyfob won't work. How can we get around it?

Remote Start

I had a remote starter put in my car a few weeks ago. For some strange reason the heater will work unless the key is in the ignition. so for now i can warm my engine up, but it still takes a few minutes for the car interior to get warm.

correction on my last reply. The heater will "not" work unless the key is in the ignition.

I think that there is a wire that you have to connect for it to work. I'm not sure which one, i've read it somewhere on this forum about that same problem.

I just talked to my local installer and he said that the Valet 561 T won't work with the stock keyfob. Can anyone tell me for sure if it can or can't? Also he said that the stock "keyless entry" isn't really even an alarm just door triggers and entry, is this true as well???

trust me the 561T will work Install them everyday on these cars I work at a dealer and I also have it installed on my own car.

The reason the heater will not work is because whoever installed it used the radio accessory wire upon remote stat instead of the blower motor so you should take it back and have them check it for you

As far as the factory security it covera all doors and trunk for some reason nissan didn't put in a hood pin as in the 5th gen

The keyless entry doesn't work when the car is started. So how do you open the door?

My keyless entry works if the engine is running, lock or unlock. I can't lock the doors with keyless or the lock all button if the key is in the ignition and the driver's door is open (maybe all doors, havent't tried) but that's a good thing.

I don't think that it is a Canadian thing.
Listed on the web site that you mentioned they have Automate owner guides there but they don't seem to be be advertising the product on their main page. Maybe it is a non-retail branding? Any way here is the link I refer to:

http://www.directed.com/guides/ogs.asp

Since the dealer is warrantying this install, they are proceeding with the installation. It is supposed to come with 2 full feature remotes.

Remote starter

Just tried to have a remote starter (Ultrastarter) installed by a local electronics store. Apparently the installers got in way over their head with the new 2004 Maxima and ended up taking down half of my electronics (power mirrors, locks, heater controls,etc.). Finally had to take to the dealer to repair the damage at about $800.00. The dealer does not install remote starters and recommends against installing these in the 2004 Maximas. Does anybody know of a good installer that has some experience with the 2004 Maximas in the upstate NY area? Had the remote starter installed in my old 1996 Maxima and have been spoiled.

Just go to a reputable place and you should be fine. Aren't they responsible if they break your car?

I guess I am somewhat apprehensive to have just anyone install the starter. I was hoping for a place and if possible an individual who has sucessfully installed a remote starter in the 2004 Maxima. Yes they said they are responsible and have filed a claim with their insurance company. Should be contacting me within the next few days. Supposedly this is the first time this has happened to them in the last nine years.

Any professional remote starter installer can do it. The only difference between using the oem remote and dei's remote is that it uses the door lock pulse to start the car. All the wires are the same except one wire. You just need to tap the green wire(depends on alarm) to the door lock pulse. 3 negative pulse will start the car.

I got my car yesterday with the DEI Automate AM6 model unit. It works fine but the installer did a poor job I think. He installed it by striping the wires and covering with black tape. Also he drilled a 1/4" hole in the firewall to run 2 wires through without any grommet or anything. The wires would probably rub through with the rough hole. All things that I can fix.

But the installer did not include the Valet switch and LED so I can not change any of the settings. That I'm going to have fixed. The remotes work fine and even open the trunk, etc......

This guy is in Canada. Can you track down an installer from the www.directed.com web site? They are the ones that have Viper, too.

What "dealer"? Nissan dealer, DEI dealer, etc...? I know that Automate did my paint interior/exterior protection @ the car dealership I bought it... Is that the same company?

Get the LED and Valet switch on, You need those. Also put a grommet on and run the wires through. They used electrical tape!? WTF! It should be soldered together or using a better method. Electrical tape isn't gonna hold it for long. How much USD was the installation with the unit?

I got an upgrade to the factory "alarm" system. The dealer contracted it and I ended up getting a PURSUIT alarm system upgrade installed that works w/ my current keyfob. Can any one of the products you guys are speaking of work w/ the upgrade as it's installed now?

The Nissan dealer, Brasso Nissan. They subcontract the work but they told me that if anything went wrong that I'd just have to go back to them and they would look after it. No running around looking for the install guy.

Automate is a brand of remote starter by DEI www.directed.com that makes Viper and Valet brands.

Cool. Thanks, mxp1l0t... I looked on the DEI site and didn't see the Automate 562A anywhere. Is it not offered online?

Yes sir.

As I mentioned, I'll be getting the valet switch and LED installed. Without the Valet switch, you can't do any programming of the features. I'll also be ensuring the firmware hasn't been locked by the installer using the "bitwriter" to program the eprom directly. It's nice of DEI to publish the install manual AND the owner manual on the Internet so we can check up on these installers and make sure we get it the way we want it. If they don't do the grommet and soldering, I'll do that myself. At least they didn't blow up my new car before I got a chance to drive it. Everything works just fine, starting, locking, trunk release, etc.

As for the valet switch and the LED, does anyone have any suggestions for location? I may as well be specific when I get it fixed up.

I spoke to the general manager today and he will have all my concerns addressed in January and he will give me a nice car to drive for the day. Brasso Nissan is pretty good at customer service.

hofb99,

It may be called a 562A but it is called an AM6 on the DEI site and on the manual that you get. They don't seem to advertise it on the products page but if you look on the manual page you can find the owners and install guide for the AM6. The install guide has the programming of the features in it. It has some nice features and it is a security system too.

It doesn't look like it is sold online but hey, who knows. I'm guessing that it is a non-retail brand. They probably have a retail brand with a different name that is the 562 in the background. I think I saw a Valet model with the same model number.

Cheers......
