What ever happened to the heat problem? Was there a resolution to this? It feels like I have the heater on floor mode when driving. I feel a lot of heat coming though the firewall. Is this a design flaw? This sucks!

Nah. No resolution to the problem. Its winter and all the extra heat is an added bonus at this time of the year.

During some troubleshooting on my '95 for lack of heat, I discovered that the valve that allows coolant to flow through the heater core, opens as soon as I set the temp at anything above 19 C (Canadian, you'll have to figure out the American value ). This means that for all intents and purposes, there is always hot coolant flowing through the heater core! Hence if the airflow is directed to the floor vents, it'll be quite toasty down there. Bear in mind, this is a '95 compared to '04 so your mileage may vary . Only way around it is to manually set to the air to the facia vents.
Any other ideas?

My 04 doesn't do this. You're right, even if it is set to heat/90/high fan/dash vents, not much heat comes out the dash vents. My wildass guess is that the air duct flapper door that is suposed to block off the heater core is not sealing properly and allows hot air through all the time or some variation on this.

Yes, exactly... not a noticeable issue here in the winter... but come spring, I'm sure it will again be a nuisance!
