There seems to be a disconnect between these dyno numbers and the times people are getting with the car at the track. For the 6th gen to be running mid-14's @ 95-96 stock auto, it needs to be making a lot more power than this. This dyno is a tad better at the top-end, but overall lower (area under the curve) than what a 5th gen VQ35 puts down (usually 200-205 whp and 220-225 wtq)

So I'd take these numbers like a grain of salt. I'd love to see somebody here get an independent dyno done on their car on a Dynojet.

I agree.... some of you 6th gens should find the nearest Dynojet and
see what you are putting to the wheels- the only way to end the misconceptions/ myths

What I dont get is how they claimed 18.1 tq and 16.1 hp. it looks like gained about 10 tq and 8 or 9 hp. Anyways my intake should be here soon, I cant wait! I would love to dyno my max but theres nowhere close unless I drive to dallas. I may do that but it wont be anytime soon.

There torque gain came at ~4250 RPM, and their horsepower gain appears to be at ~5100 RPM. They gained 8 PEAK horsepower, and 10 PEAK footpounds of torque. At 4250 RPM the car makes about 15-20 more pound feet of torque with the injen intake then with the stock system. This will increase your midrange pull more noticably then it will your top end pull.

This is the reason why you can't always add the 10hp, 15hp and 5hp together, and say you gained 30hp, unless the numbers quoted are PEAK hp increases, which hardly anyone uses in advertising.

I think the dyno numbers are pretty realistic because the 6th gen is rated at 265hp and it's putting down roughy what most 265hp G35 sedan autos are putting down. The weight between the 6th gen and G35 sedan are also pretty close plus the track numbers are pretty much in line. My buddy (Shortchaz on the org) ran a 14.70@96mph with a terrible 2.31 60' in his bonestock G35 sedan auto with 5000 miles, his 270lb butt behind the wheel, and at 1100' in elevation. He's ran as fast at 96.9mph. Put me behind the wheel (185lb), 1/4 tank of gas, no spare, and a sea level track and I could get 14.3-14.4s stock.

So I'd take these numbers like a grain of salt. I'd love to see somebody here get an independent dyno done on their car on a Dynojet.
Amen.

Dave B: What does it cost typically?

Glude: Drive to Dallas from where? I will if you will. Meet you there so to speak.

Who has one in the Dallas area?

I've seen stock dynos for G35 sedans putting down 215-220 whp. And that's automatics. Manual G35 sedans I've seen in the high-220 to low-230 range, all stock and on dynojets. So this 207 whp on a manual Max just seems low to me, and the torque is way low also. Even a 260hp CL-S 6spd dynos at about 215-220 whp.

Hmm...if this was an automatic dyno I could almost believe it. But it says 6spd.

Guess that's why their intakes make so much hp over the stock

The dyno is probably from an older max, maybe 2000 model, but with the same engine. There's no proof that this dyno is from a 2004.

Maybe they used the worst conditions to tip the advantage.

The torque curves don't match a 2k, nor do they match a 95-99. The curves "look like" a VQ35, but are just abnormally low.

The Mazda guys are having a lot of trouble lately getting accurate dynos due to the computer running a very rich mixture and retarding timing when on the dyno because it senses all the wheelspin and goes into a mild safe mode. Something similar to that happening on the new Max is another possibility as well. I wonder if there were any sort of warning lights or anything on the dash of the Max, like an ABS light. That's what shows up on the Mazdas (6s, RX-8, etc).
