rear window tint

I had my max tinted about 2 weeks ago. (20%rear 35%front) and from seeing other max's in person and searching peoples homepages, I noticed that when they tinted my rear window, they did a cut away around the interior mounted brake light. From the outside, it kinda looks like tint is missing because the light is mounted about 2 inches above the rear deck, so there is no tint from the light down. Did they screw up or they couldn't get to it? I've seen other maxes with the whole rear tinted, only able to see the third brake light when the brakes are in use, I'd prefer that look much better.

Yeah my tint covers the whole back window, If your really not happy with it, I would go back and tell them to redo it..

Yeah the brake light cover is easily removed. I knocked it off by accident when I was cleaning the rear window when I first got the car.

I just had my windows tinted and the tint looks like it was factory done. It should look perfect after it is done.

Just got back from the tint place. I explained to them the situation and they told me that in jersey it's illegal to tint over the brake light. So why tint my front windows and ask if i want the windshield tinted? I payed $135 for all the windows, and they want $140 to redue the rear window and they CAN'T GARANTEE THE DEFOSTERS WILL WORK. I've had other cars tinted before and never had anyone say that to me and charge so much? The other option is to put a vinyl strip across the bottom to cover up the carpet on the rear deck, but I think that will look like ***. What to do. The one thing about this place is they do good *** tinting.

we did ours at a "better tint place" such as you have to sign some forms prior to the work. The forms stated you won't pass inspection and/or fines if front windows/mounted brake light are tinted. You have the option to tint over the mounted brake light however. New Jersey tint laws allowed any shade EXcept the front windows. A picture of limo tint around the mounted brake light (it covers the ~ 2 inches to the rear deck):

I think they probably mean that the defrosters may be damaged if the tint is removed and new film applied. This happened to me before. I had the rear tint removed (damn cops) and the defroster strips were pulled off w/ the film.
