They just configured the plant to handle it. It is here to stay...

to seperate the Altima from the Maxima, I believe Nissan will have to add AWD (from the Murano perhaps?)
it might not be possible, I am not an engineer...
but 287bhp, 274lbft of torque and an AWD system would certainly help steer high-end buyers away from the Altima.
I still haven't checked out the 2005 Altima interior link....

ok I looked...
much better than the 2002-2004 Altimas.
note that I believe that the 2004 is an upgrade compared to the 2002's interior. I had a 4 cylinder 2004 Altima as a rental when my Maxima was getting some work done, and it wasn't as bad as I remember from test driving a 2002 when they first came out.
But it has the 2000 and 2001 Maxima seats...frumpy, frumpy, frumpy....
I prefer the 2002 and 2003 seats.
subtle differences? yes, but the seats in the 2000 and 2001 made me buy a used 1998 Maxima back in October of 2000 instead of a new one....
later I upgraded to a 2003 Maxima...but that's another story.
really, the split that is parallel to your butt crack...it doesn't look as sporty to me...I prefer the split that is perpendicular to the butt crack (like on Audi's)
why did they change this on the 2k2 Maxima? I don't know...
why did they ever offer this on the 2000 and 2001 Maxima? I don't know.
but I like my seats.
but my best 1/4 mile time is only 14.802 --> even w/6 speed.

I agree, I'm not crazy about the tails either. But I'm thinking this will be a mid 20 grand car. I think that's a pretty good deal for what it offers. Especially with the missing tooth. I'm glad they got rid of that damned thing. Although I doubt if I purchase the new alti, I can't hate on it.

i think the 04 max interior is still nicer.. the altima's new interior looks good with the navi, but without it, it doesnt thrill me at all.. also the max guage pod meaning the speedo and rpm tach is alot nicer, "like the z" so its all on opinion..
