February 2004 Sales Numbers

This is an interesting table, as Feb '03 was the last month before the '04 Maximas were released. The Feb '04 total will include almost no leftover '03s, so this is strictly '03 Maxima vs '04 Maxima.
I am impressed that the '04s sold 19% more this February than the '03s did last February. But there are so many other factors involved: the '04 is fairly 'fresh and new', while the '03 had essentially been out almost four years. The '04 costs four or five thousand (depending on equipment) more than an equivalent '03. That is a significant increase during a near-recession. The weather in the Atlanta area (and most of the south) was unusually nice in February 2003, but was absolutely atrocious this February. I understand this February was unusually bad up north, also.
In other words, although we should not try to draw too much from this table, it is nevertheless interesting.

Monte - you are correct that the selection of '03s was not good by Feb '03. Also working against the '03 at that point was the impending arrival of the '04s.
I tend to slightly disagree on the price differential. The '03 Maxima had a GXE version available with fairly low MSRP. The GXE disappeared in '04. The BASE MSRP with NO options added on a (fairly stripped) '04 SE is $27,000, and the base SL is $29,000 ($29,300 with 5 speed). The '04 Maxima SE with 'elite' package has an MSRP around $36,500. The 'top-of-the-line' '03 GLE or SE MSRPs were not near $36,500, even before discounts.
Having said that, the heavy discounts on all Maximas by Feb of '03 does make comparison with today's Maxima prices difficult. The non-discounted MSRPs of the '03s and '04s may be closer than I may have indicated in my original post.
