2 weeks on Eibachs

And I think I blew a strut already.. I don't know if they are blown but stay with me. The car drives tight and very good. I hit bumps and the struts seem to hold up. I here a noise when I hit an uneven bump. Doesn't even have to be big. It's tough to explain. Like for instance say if I hit a manhole cover it happens, not a big man hole cover eaither. Almost sounds if something is loose.. Other then the little noise the springs ride suprisigly comfortable. The drop is perfect too.

There should be a couple quirks to work out on the suspension, it is new and it takes time to work in. I noticed a sound or two over some odd bumps but nothing that is going to scare me, I just think they need to settle and you're problem should be aleavaited.

Could be but it almost sounds as if the struts were bottoming out. May be all in my head, who knows.

98maxse and andymax95,

I just ordered a set of Eibach spring ($210.00) for my 2004 Maxima and was wondering who (tire shop, dealer) installed your springs. I spoke to a friend who works for a dealer and he was going to swap my rims with new ones I bought and install the springs for about $250.00. The cost sounds about right, but he stated that it would be an all day event and he would have to remove the rear seats to get to the rear springs.

I just want to know your experiences in getting this done.

Thanks,
Viper1

mine were done for 150.. The person who did it was the best business person I have ever dealt woth.. I think 250 is way too much.. Put the wheels on yourself and tell him to install the springs for 150.

You may have a blown strut. I had one of mine replaced shortly after I got my car because it was blown. Ive been on the eibachs for about 11,000 miles and it still rides ok. Not great but ok. Install isnt to hard, should take about 2 hours with some help. I did mine and a guy from altimas.net gave me a walk through for the altimas and it was the same. Save your money and do it yourself.

He is WRONG. You dont have to remove anything to get to the rear springs off except for 1 bolt on the lower arm!

To test for blown struts:

1. Go to the corner of the vehicle the noise is coming from.

2. Push down on the car hard as possible and let go.

3. If the car doesn't rebound instantly it may be a blown strut.

4. If the car bounces 2-3 times before settling back it is most likely a blown strut.

5. Any signs of leaks like shhshs shshsss sound means definitely blown.

On a side not, I find it impossible that you blew them in 2 weeks unless you were launching some jumps and getting air! The drop from the eibachs isnt much at all. 2,000 miles - No. 20,000 miles - maybe.

Thanks for all the input you guys are a great resource and BRIGBOY that would be great if you could. One more question, Does the front-end need an alignment after the installation of the new springs?

Viper1 and Brigboy:

Since it's only a spring install, no decking needs to be removed from the rear cause it's an independent rear suspension which mean the springs sit solo.

Brigboy, PM with your email address so I can send the pics so you can write up the install. I tried yesterday to send to your school email address but my search lead to 5 different email accounts.

I finally got the Eibach spring installed today. I nearly panicked when they tried to back the car off the lift; it started to drag over it. The car had to be hand lifted a little to clear it. Make a mental note, when have the car serviced; make sure they use the outside type lift and not the drive over ones.

I also had the car aligned both front and rear. I could tell as soon as it was put on the ground that a four wheel alignment was needed. Afterward at home I did noticed that the rear wheels are still tilted in a little on the top. I have a 12 month warranty on the alignment and will get that fixed on the next service. I will let the car settling in a bit more.

I am really liking the way the car sits now, the big front gap is gone. The ride is normal on the small stuff but firm on the big bumps. No creaks or clicks.

Next small project will be the intake, JTW Pop-Charger or Injen Air Intake. It will probably be the pop-charger. It rains a lot here in South Florida with minor flooding.

Again, this forum is a great resource. Thanks for the input.

So there aren't any aftermarket shocks out there? Why buy springs then?

because drops are nice! Anyways you can always put on the the shocks when they come out, thats what im gonna do. I cant stand driving a stock vehicle for to long, especially when it had the gap the 04 max had.
