Auto Off Headlight Setting

Call me dumb, but I don't get the auto off headlight settings. On my 2000 Max, they went out when the engine turned off, period. No settings.

So now I am setting the program to off (no auto involved) and they do not instantly go off. To me, that would be the setting where I could recipricate my old Max workings. But it seems to me that the old 2000 settings are not possible. I can get a 30 sec delay as a minimum, but no instant off.

Or do I have a problem? And I mean the car, guys, not me.

The lights stay on for you to be able to see when you get out and walk to your house. it is a safety feature. However off just makes it where it won't turn the lights off at all (well atleast not until it thinks the battery is low -- I haven't tested that theory, nor do I want to). I have not found a way to revert back to those settings. But what is so bad about 30 seconds?

What is this the bronze maxima thread?

I use the off setting on the headlights. The headlights go off immediately after all doors are closed. The setting of 30 seconds turns the lights off 30 seconds after the doors are closed.

I changed to lights off immediately because I kept waiting to make sure that the lights went off. I guess I just need to get confidence that the auto off thing works.

Upon reading the manual more closely, it appears that my desire to have the headlights turn off when the ignition is off and doors are closed, will not work because I am not using the auto light selection on the stalk.

Previously, on my 2000, this was not the case. This is a step backward in logic, IMHO.

Correct, if you have the headlights manually turned on, you have to manually turn them off when you turn off the car's ignition (hence the annoying continuous beep if you dont). If you have the headlights on the auto-on setting, they'll turn off when you close your door if you have the setting to the OFF position, which is what I have. I dont like the 30 second feature cuz I always feel like Im not TOTALLY sure they'll go off, and I find myself standing there to wait till they do.
