Lots a shimmy posts on this forum. No single cure, just the obvious... alignment, balance, air pressure, rotors, etc.

What trans problem?

I haven't had a shimmy or tranny problem (don't even know what the tranny issue is) and I bought mine in April of 03.

As to the tranny thing, a poster here was concerned with the brief hesitation sometimes followed by sort of a jerk (in first gear) when accelerating vigorously from standstill. This complaint was with the five speed auto.

Another tranny problem is grinding of gears with the 6 speed manual when first starting out (and tranny is cold). Problem goes away when tranny warms up. The Canadian posters seem to be the 'poster boys' for this problem.

The only other tranny problem I have seen here is some autos are prone to jerk when upshifting when the tranny is cold; problem goes away when tranny warms up. This seems to be worse in cars with VIN #s below 87000.

I strongly recommend scanning the threads here to get a better picture of what drivers are experiencing.

Fortunately, most posters here (hence most Maximas) seem to have no tranny problems.

Mine feels like it has excessive slip in reverse... mine was built 12/03. I have a vibration that started after tire rotation... I have felt the tires are there is quite a bit of feathering on 3 tires, and next to none on 1. My bet is that it is an alignment problem.

12/03 still has rear deck vibrations.

Other than that, the only thing that you have to get used to is that it uses a lot of engine braking in 1st gear, especially when below 20MPH. So sometimes I jump on it right as it crosses below the 20 mark (during rush hour traffic) and I get the engine brake followed immediatly by a ****** forward.

My 2 cents.
