Headlamp dimming issue on 04's?

My Aunt has had her '04 for about a year and has had problems with the high beams not dimming. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, what did the dealer do to fix it?

She has taken it to the dealer and they have been unable to duplicate it.

I've had my drivers side assembly replaced twice so far. What happens is that after a long period of running the lamp when put into high beam mode will not return to low beam mode. There is some sort of lens or mask that flips up and does not return properly.

The only thing the dealership has suggested is to aim the beam much lower (no way), or replace the entire assembly. They've been more than willing to do it for me two time so far. When its exibiting this behaviour its very obvious at night. Not so obvious during the day. You may want to take pictures to show the service advisor.

Nissan seems stupid on this one. Why design a headlamp with moving parts? Sounds like more room given for possible malfunction/error.

I bet this design was somehow more cost effective for Nissan? Which in turns to equal more profit?

not as much moving parts as some of the others... Lexus, and I believe a few other Luxury divisions have lights that turn with the steering.

With a HID system you have to have some moving parts. HID need to "start" so if you had separate bulbs for the lows and the highs, the highs would have to "start" every time you put on your high beams....you would loose light at startup and the bulb would not last very long
