Has anybody gotten their plastic info screen cover replaced?

Friggin plastic info screen protectant cover is mad scratched and has fog growing all over it. looks like crap. anyhow my dealer says they orderes a cleaning kit. i laughed and said "your gonna waste money on a kit, to clean plastic? its scratched too? how is this gonna work?" anyways, im going to another service center tomorrow and goin to see if they will replace.

If they refuse to replace too I may buy it, any idea how much the thing cost?

also, the plastic piece over the odometer looks scratched but its actually a tint film that is peeling. I need this replaced too.

anybody else have this problem? how much to buy replacements if dealer wont fix?

oh yea my shifter plate is all scratched too, and i am so neat. friggin cheap material. why cant Nissan do things right???

other than this I just have noisy struts and a slight shimmy. Man i love my $33,000 piece of crap :-)

Try regular toothpaste (or extra whitetning :>)) and a soft clean cloth. Sometimes works quite well to remove scratches out of plastic. It has just enough abrasive to do the job but not wreck the plastic.

There are also products that you can buy to remove scratches from eyeglasses - haven't tried it myself, but might work as well.

Just replaced my screen assy. myself and it only costs 24.00. The only problem is the replacement has a frosted appearance to it and looks blurry when looking at the info on the screen.

There is a TSB on the screen. I don't have the number handy right at the moment, but I think it's in the stickies at the beginning of the headers. My understanding is that they are to replace it.

Correction - the TSB (05053) calls for cleaning the screen. Some dealers are apparently just replacing them, according to several posts on this forum, though.

ive been too 2 dealers and they refuse to replace it only clean it, and im really upset since I think it needs to be replaced. They say they cant just replace the plastic, they have to do the whole assembly. jrrendon, did they just replace the plastic on yours? where are you from? I shoudl go to your service center. i dont know what to say to the RI dealers to get them to budge, they get paid by nissan so you would think they want the money.

burkjb, you made your own fix? how did you do this and do you have pics?

thanks

I went to a dealer (last week) that I didn't even buy the car from and they gladly replaced the screen and I had them replace the cd/tape deck (both done this week) because it was skipping when it was real cold outside. They did not hesitate to do the repairs in fact they didn't even try the CD player they just took my word for it. They get reimbursed from Nissan for the work I don't know why they wouldn't want to do the replacement.

Uhhh .... burk. Is it possible you didn't remove the protective film from the plastic? Most plastic pieces like this ship with a thin film kinda like saran wrap squashed onto them to keep them from being scuffed or scratched. Sometimes that stuff is applied even before the piece is cut, so it can be easy to miss it.

It would look like you describe if it's still on the plastic. Sometimes you have to use something like a knife point or even a straight pin to snag the film over in a corner to get it started, then it'll peel right off.

Johnson Nissan 2 1/2 hours from RI and it took them a week to get the parts... but I bought the car in Springfield MA at Jerry Rome Nissan which is 1 1/2 hours from RI.

Go online find dealers in the area and just call around to the parts departments and tell them what you want.

Whats the worst they can say.. no?

I will say the new screen is much clearer.

I have the navi in my cre and had the outter screen replaced. Its like one piece that has the radio buttons etc on in and the plexi for the screen cover is also part of this. Delaer did mine on warranty but if you had to buy its its not too expensive. Just make sure when they change it out that they do not get anyt dust behind it.
