I now hate RDS......
(rant on)
Ah yes, the good ole American way....... take a good thing and SCREW IT UP with commercialism. My favorite local station was transmitting regular data over RDS until about a week ago. NOW, all I get is a scrolling message telling me to visit my local Exxon station because they have a Baskin Robbins inside. ARGGGH! It drives me nuts and I feel violated driving my own car. Is nothing sacred anymore?
Guess it's Sirius 24/7 for this cat.

Raw dog is the best thing for long trips! I love Sirius since I had it installed two weeks ago. The music selection is great, but sometimes it almost feels like cable TV, all these channels and nothing good on, but unlike TV, you only have to wait a minute or two for a good song to be played.

You had to know that RDS would lead to this type of unwanted advertisement
I went with XM, and I'll never own another car without it. I like the uncensored, no holds barred aspect of the programming. No FCC intervention.

Don't count on Sirius being commercial-free for long. As soon as satellite radio builds up a sizeable audience, it'll be too tempting to pass up as an advertising medium.
You kids may not remember it, but at one time cable TV was commercial-free ... they said the subscription fees would make commercials unnecessary. Sound familiar?![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Some OK City radio stations started broadcasting ads over the RDS. I remember when RDS was 1st introduced, it was mostly to be for safety...weather alerts, detours, traffic jams/accidents etc... have yet to see it used that way here.
The Best thing to do, is call the radio station and complain that if they keep up the ads on their rds system, that you will no longer listen to their radio station.
Also contact the company paying for that ad and let them know you will never purchase their product or services by their advertising in that way.
Last thing they want is to do is lose listeners/sales.
And yes, XM and the like will have ads too.
It's just a matter of time.
