Car carrier vs dolly?

I am relocating to Lost Wages from Memphis. Approx 1800 miles, and doing the self move. I was checking the Ryder rental trucks and selecting vehicle towing method, it says I should ONLY us a carrier, not a dolly. My Max is 2004 automatic, any pointers or help will be greatly appreciated, any thoughts about where to rent in Vegas also appreciated. Time is of the essence, I need to be in Vegas on 7/25...

Mempho, great city! My old boss now works for the Grizzlies, and loves it out there! I assume the carrier means all 4 wheels off the ground, you might as well go that route, I mean, it's only like $30 for the car trailer, isn't it? Compared to the $800 or so for the truck, its not bad. Plus, you'll save the tires from any uneven wear.

Check out http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/ for TSB #NT099-020C. Just do not tow with all 4 wheels on the ground. Very bad.
Read the TSB.

Actually, truck(14 ft)+ weeks usage+1900 miles=$1400 and car carrier is $295 or dolly for $145. that is from budget, U-Haul says my Max will not go on their full carrier. Thanks for all the info, I do appreciate it

Make sure the front wheels are not spining. That and making sure it won't fall off are the 2 most important things. (also on the dolly make sure the back end won't hit any speed bumps. or scrub at any time.. we and you will be pis*ed if you screw up your car on a simple tow. )

Is there anyone else going (like a wife), who could just drive the car? You're talking about 65-70 gallons of gas for an 1800 mile trip, and that translates to only about $115 for gas.

The thought of towing a car behind a 14' truck gives me the *******.
