some of them are hideous.... i'm just sick of seeing them on ricers... you just become another face in the crowd. if you're gonna just swap the lights and do nothing else to the body of the car... you might as well leave em stock.

At the 04' LA Car Show, there was one Maxima 04 on display with 20 inch wheels, with 255X35X20 tires, lowered, body kit and the smoke tailight. I don't know if the tailight was replaced or they just applied a smoke film (like window tint film).

I was thinking that with my car - smoke color, smoking the existing tailights might look good. A friend of mine is quite qood at doing it with paint. Gives it a smoky red look.

I wouldn't want to over do it. There is a safety reason they are big and red.

Why would you want to darken your lights so that your car is harder to see ???

Do you like getting hit, and then being partially at fault due to darkened lighting ???

I dunno......

I don't think that there really are smoked taillights out there anymore. I remember in the mid 90's they were made, but not very popular.

Remember there are a few things to think about. A tail light from nissan probably will run you 250+ dollars, a piece. A 150 dollar set of aftermarket lights (of anytype, head or tail) will not be of the same quality. They will fog up, get water build up, burn out quickly, and reduce visiblity.

Now, if you want smoked lights, the way I see it there are 3 options, two of which really suck in my opinion, and one isn't the best idea.

1: Buy cheap aftermaket lights. Have all kinds of problems, and make your car look cheap after 3 months.
2: Buy those cheesy covers that velcro over you factory lights. It will give you the look you are wanting... from about 50 feet. Closer then that it looks cheap. However, your factory lights, and factory quality remains. Plus they are easy to remove for better visiblity.
3. Finally, there is the spray. You can find tint spray for less then 10 bucks, pull your lights off the car, and go at it. That will give you a good look, good quality, and is very cheap. You just can't be a pansy and be afraid of taking your car apart. Even better, you can take the light housing apart, and spray the inside, this will make the tint last longer. However, you have to make sure you reseal your housing very well.

All of which are "illegal" for street use, however, you probably won't be cited. And you will not be at fault for an accident because of it. If someone rear ends you it is there fault. Even if you have no tail lights, that is why you are taught about following distances in drivers ed. If they rear end you, they were following to close.

IMO if I wanted "euro lights" i would have bought an altima. But thats the reason i refused to buy one, i hate them. On my old car i painted the tailights to match the car, kinda like eyelids i suppose. I know a lot of people use night shades, the spray. And have success with that. For now i think the red will match my car better.
