Trip to Vegas

Just got back from a little trip to Las Vegas in my Maxima. I averaged 23 MPG with three passengers and running A/C the whole way through (temp. over a 100 at 3 in the morning!). I covered 270 miles each way, and reached speeds of 120. This is the fastest I've gone in my Maxima and it drove like 80. Had a lot of fun driving. The 6th gen Maxima is one heck of a comfortable ride on extended trips. I saw 1 other 6th gen on the way there, 3 in Vegas and none on the way back. Unfortunately, on the way back I ran over a big piece of a blown tire which tore up the lining in my front passenger wheel well. At least there's no cosmetic damage. Just thought I'd share with you Org members. Just in case you're wondering, I lost $3K playing Blackjack. Oh well, c'est la vie.

I'll just win it back next time.
Just saw your post on the ebay deal for the loaded Maxima. The owner is losing a whole lot more than what I lost in Vegas LOL.

Maybe he has the shimmy and doesn't know that there is a TSB for it... or, maybe he posted it just a day before the TSB was released.

Edify11, I was there 2 weeks ago. Had 4 passengers and avg abt 21MPG. I got stopped entering the hotels parking lot for a security check. The guard asked alot of questions about the car, even checked out the navi. Overall, pleasant trip in the Max. Though i lost too. Bellagio is holding about two thousand of my buddies hostage. Ill get em back.

Sounds like a fun road trip - other than running over that blown tire !

temp. over a 100 at 3 in the morning!

I had my first longish road trip in my Max last weekend and totally enjoyed it. Also got about 22-23 mpg (10.5 km/l) with everything on.

It really is a nice road vehicle. Smooth, quiet, comfortable, good audio, loads of passing power, the cruise control works excellent. Really great....

I just got back from putting my max through the wringer on a 2500 mile road trip. was nice, comfortable, performed flawlessly. the nav came in extremely handy once i learned to throw my instinct out the window and trust it. it didn't let me down. got about 22 mi/gal or so... consistently did between 80 and 100mph the whole way... went from texas to oklahoma to kansas, over to colorado, down to new mexico, then back into texas... went from altitudes varying between about 200 ft to 10,000 ft. no probs! i love this car and thank the Lord for satellite radio!

I'm puzzled ... 3 of you guys getting between 22 and 23mpg on the road. I went to Vegas from Texas when my Max had only 1200 miles on it, and with 4 adults and a full trunk of luggage, I got like 26mpg overall average. And although I didn't go 120mph, I did break 100 about 20 times. I averaged 80-85mph on the interstates. And my A/C is always on, year-round. Got higher average (27-28) on two other trips. Heck, I get 22 around town!

So what did you guys do to get such lousy mileage?

Mike

I have really fat friends. But seriously, the drive to Vegas does have its share of uphill slopes, so maybe thats why. I've registered as high as 32 MPG on a short stretch of highway, but overall on the trip to Vegas, I averaged 23.

Same here, drove from Maryland to Memphis TN (Beale Street) with 4 people and a loaded trunk. I was getting 25.8 mpg. Some guy in a Lincoln hit an old 18 wheeler retread and threw it into my front bumper. I was going 85 mph and it ruined the driver side bumper. Taking her in Monday for repairs. Although I cried all the way back and I gave every Lincoln I saw the bird after that, I still had a good time and I love the Max.

That friggin sucks. Once in my 97 Maxima I was following some SUV who ran over a segment of drywall. As he ran it over he flipped it up and I ran straight into it. Messed up my entire front. Shortly after, I sold my 97 and got my 04.
