Only lost $9K - what a disappointment - oh, well, guess I'll just have to keep it and enjoy...

Well, KBB is not what the dealers go by, so your only hope of minimizing lost is by selling the car yourself.
I got 21,400 for my SL, while payoff was 24,000. That's a hefty loss for a car I've had one year (almost to the day) w/ 10,040 miles.
Oh well, live and learn.
BTW--I loved the car. Just had a new baby and trying to drop montly outlays...

Yeah maxima resale sucks severely, which is why they're so great to buy a couple of years old.
I don't know if I'd trust those numbers. An 04 sentra spec v with 15k miles and excellent condition is claiming to be worth $14,700 private party, but in fact I almost bought a brand new one in december and it would have cost me that from the dealer. I seem to recall I could have gotten it for about $14,500 in fact or $15k.

Below is a link to an interesting article. Kiplinger listed the Maxima #1 for retaining it's value after 3 years over 42% of other non-luxury cars. Higher than a Honda Accord. I've never owned a Maxima before, but I've owned 3 other Nissans. Never had a problem with resale value, but I keep my cars like brand new. My last car, a Pathfinder, I kept for 6 years and got top dollar for it.
If you're someone that trades in every 2 years, then you're going to get screwed, not just with a Maxima, but with most cars. I sold an Acura after 9 months and I got screwed royally, but the loss at the time was worth it to me. I guess I'll never know until I actually go to trade in or sell, but as of now I have no immediate plans to do so. I love this car!

My car prices out at $25,990 in a private sale. It means I've lost about $5000. I've owned it since Feb.
