side rod/drag was replace by nissan what is it and is it a safety issue?

Only thing I can come up with is that this is part of the manual transaxle assembly. Reverse Bracket fork rod perhaps? Hope this helps

Remember the old Offenhouser (Indianapolis) roadsters or midgets? Remember the rod that comes out the side of the car, connected to the steering box on one side and with the other end of the rod connected to the front wheels spindles....the rod that moves the wheels left and right? That's a drag link/side rod.

How that applies to a fully independently-suspended, rack and pinion Maxima beats me...you're gonna have to get close to another Nissan tech that can translate -or get msoemax below to investigate where this fits in either the front or rear suspension.

I smell it's one of the rear suspension's lateral links....I just cant see where this would fit on the front...
