Getting alil suspicious bout my MAX's history....

what most of you ppl dont know is that i got my WhiteSE bout a month ago Used from a toyota dealer. its under my dads name but i was with him during the purchase.

What i do know is:
22,000+ miles
previously owned by a car rental company
and the vehicle report was clean.

but what makes me suspicious is that i noticed a spot near my rear right fender where the paint doesnt really match, the spot is bout 3 inches big. didnt really bother me much. but then when i was tinting the back glass, i took off the panels on the sides to make it easier for me and i found a bunch of broken glass. Maybe this glass could be from a previous skyview? Could my Max have been in an accident or been broken into? or am i just being paranoid?

what do you guys recommend i do?

Mismatched paint and glass would lead me to think it was in an accident. A minor accident is zero cause for concern. What is cause for concern is the fact that evidently you did not get a carfax check on the VIN of this vehicle prior to purchase. Do this now and see what it says.

The first Maxima I looked at was a 11,000+ mile white one that was previously owned by a rental company in Texas. My wife was getting an oil change at her Pontiac dealership and they had the Maxima on the lot so I checked it out. I was suspicious at first if only because the car only had 11,000 miles on it. I wondered under what circumstances a rental company would turn around a car with relatively few miles for it. Then I thought about all those mechanics a rental company might keep around, contracted out or otherwise, who could easily hide evidence of an accident without reporting to carfax. I went and bought a new one.

As far as what you can do? I don't really think you can do much except maybe get a lawyer. With the broken glass, perhaps other evidence can be found that the car was in an accident. Then you would have to prove who did the coverup, the rental company or the dealership. This, assuming that it is the law to report all accidents so they would show up on carfax in the first place. If the car is under a good warranty and you have no real problems with the car, you might just want to save yourself the hassle and live with it. Live and learn. Good luck and let us know what you do/how it turns out.

Right, and what if the car WAS in an accident? Who is to say that the rental company didn't have their mechanics fix the problem, and NOT report the accident to carfax? My point is that if there was no police report, no insurance claim (since the rental companies have their own mechanics who can do the work), why would there be a record of the accident at all? How would carfax know? They woudn't, hence the clean vehicle report. I would be suspicious too.

I think the first problem is the "previously owned by a rental company". Come on, we all know what gets done to rentals.

Not to scare you or anything ? but My Mom as much as I love her dearly , bought a pre-owned honda accord ??? previously owned by a rental company - fleet vehicle ? as they say. Clean histroy. Well if you look at the side the door it has markings that a junk yard part has ? so as the fender and both in the driver side. I can also see where they glue the car together at the front driver side. This only tells you 1 thing. its a junk car ? it got hit but the rental company did not report it?

I was looking at a demo Max when I first started looking. I noticed some paint chipping from the front fender and asked the salesman about it. The next day he tells me the car had been in an accident. I pulled a Carfax report on it but it came back clean. The dealer made the repairs and nothing was ever reported. I wonder if I hadn't noticed the paint chipping if they would have even told me about it. I didn't buy that car and I was at the dealership about 3 weeks ago and it was still sitting there.

CARFAX doesnt work as well as people think it does. i speak from experience. my wifes 01 celica got rear ended at 50mph. not totalled but 13k in damage. not enough to total it out, cause at the time it was brand new. but anyhow. insurance paid out for all damages, were paying for the insurance increase. NOT A TRACE OF THIS ACCIDENT on carfax or anywhere. but other things like inspections and when we put the car from her moms name into hers. all that stuff shows up after the accident, but no accident. been almost 3 years now scince. and still nothing.

Yeah, CarFax is very suspicious to me. I've been in a couple accidents that was reported to insurance and DMV. Nothing has ever shown up on CarFax. ALWAYS get the car checked out by a mechanic that can see traces of previous damage.
