Listen to this guys!
ok heres the story. yesterday i dropped off my car for a list of problems i have with it. shimmy, glove box misaligned, cargo net broken, vibration in steering wheel when i hit the brakes and the tranny shifts hard from 1st to 2nd when its cold. as you all know, many of these problems all have tsb's. Called them this morning to see what happened, and get ready for this one, my service advisor told me that the shimmy is because i need to rotate my tires. then he told me that the misaligned glove box is standard, that even the new 05's have this. the cargo net they said they couldnt fix because there was pieces missing. the vibration in the steering wheel when i hit the brakes is also related to the tire rotation and that the tranny is fine. when i heard all of this i was ready to go over tothe dealership and blow that whole ****in place up! i told him let me call you back. jumped on the forum and got the tsb's for the glovebox, tranny, shimmy printed them out and went to the dealership. when i got there i was so ****in heated that i was ready to knock the **** out the advisor for being so stupid. i told him heres the tsb's for the glove, shimmy and tranny. told him to get the technician and the service manager. got them together and told them look you guys need to stop ****ing around and fix my car! you know damn well my car is ****ed up! the tsb's are right there so dont act stupid like you dont know what im talking about. i told them the glove box, you order those rubber grommets and follow the instructions, the shimmy, the tsb is right there and dont tell me that i need to rotate the tires because i just had the car tires rotated and balanced last week. then the technician said that its because the tires in the back are worn too much. then i got even more pissed and told him that since i bought the car with the new tires its been having the shimmy problem so new tires would not fix this problem.,then told him the tranny if you look at the vin for the affected maximas mine falls into that category, i told him, you know damn well what you have to do to fix this, you have to reprogram the ecu. what really threw me over the top was when he told me that the glove box is standard like that and that even the 05's are like that. so i told him, when you say standard you mean this is a standard feature that these cars come with. then i got sarcastic and told him so its like a standard feature like side air bags. told him, this is ****in bull****. when i was done chewing them out they finally knew i meant business. the tables turned real qiuckly and the manager right away told me calm down sir were on your side. i thought to myself, yeah right. they ordered me a new glove box lid which i doubt will fix the problem but ill see what happens. ordered a new cargo net. reprogrammed the ecu. tranny is fine now. runs way better. on tuesday when the parts come in there putting new tires on my max and seeing if that fixes the shimmy which i doubt. i am just so frustrated and needed to vent. ive been sick as hell all week. i have midterms coming up that ive been trying to study for. i know i may have been harsh and rude but ive had so many problems with my max that im just irritated. sorry if i offended anyone but ive made my decision and as soon as i fix my car im selling it. im getting a g35 coupe. what i really want. keep you guys posted. spread the word for me. 04 max silver exterior, grey leather, elite package, nav, every possible option. im sick of this ****. sorry.
I am so sorry
I have been dealing with this for a year now, 30 visits to the dealership since last October.. I got rid of the shimmy with the TSB, but if your tires are worn they should replace them all. I have had mine dropped and Toyo's put on and the shimmy is back!! So stick with Goodyears..
I as well had to print out the TSB's for my service rep, he kept asking me, "where do you find these"? The internet, "I replied". Nissan doesen't really care about fixing these problem's there just going through the motions. I had to inform them of all TSB's, they had no clue there were some many problems...!!! And Nissan had not put them in touch with their website??... How lame is all I can say.. I had to inform them that I wasen't going to live with a droopy glovebox, or a screwed up tranny, and a sunroof that did not close without pushing the vent button about 25 times!!! (That took 1 year to fix by the way)!
But I am so blown away by your story, I can't believe your Service Advisor just thought you would take his lame, dishonest, BS.. That you would walk away and say "Oh Gee I must have it all wrong"... They would look at me when I would discuss these TSB's as if I was speaking in tounge's. It insane, I think Nissan brainwashes them during training or something, Denial is Amazing!
I can tell you this: I am fed up with Nissan/Infiniti, and as far as I can tell it won't get any better.. As I have said before many times to myself "Lexus"... I'm going back, they were the best service dept. I have ever dealt with! They would lay a Lexus footmat down when I would pull up to the service advisor's area so that my shoe's would not be soiled, and all I had was a 97 ES300!!! Any company that pays that much attention to detail and customer relations tells me what a fool I was for leaving!!!!!!!!!!!
Good Luck with your Max, don't let that service Dept. get away with anything, Be their worst nightmare, I WAS

I notice you're both in California. This confirms the stories that there's something in the water there.
The service departments and techs get paid for warranty work (although usually at a slightly lower rate than non-warranty work), so it's not like they're having to do the work for free. In fact, some techs make their whole career on warranty work alone (I knew a Chevy tech whose whole job was clearing "Service Engine Soon" lights!).
But a dealership that plays like they don't know about widely-known problems ... and certainly a dealer who claims not to know about TSB's ... is a dealership I'd avoid like the black plague. And I might write a letter to Nissan just for the fun of it, so they know they have a clueless dealer out there.
But Edromo, I don't think you'd sell a car because of a slightly-misaligned glovebox, or a tranny that shifts a little rough for the first two minutes in the morning. I've had the tranny thing for 21000 miles, and it's so not a big deal that I haven't bothered yet to get it fixed. Ditto the crud on the back of the info screen. I think you want a G35 coupe, and that's cool. But don't expect to get away from problems with the G. I frequent the G forums, too, and you need to expect rattles and squeaks, a generally loud cabin (engine and exhaust noise), uneven and rapid wear on the rear tires, a rough ride, etc., etc.
The grass ain't always greener ...

Mike, where are you in Texas. I live in a McKinney and just picked up my car this morning and had the same run around (ignorance) from the service department and no time to talk it over. I will be back Monday for sure because they told me the same thing about the shimmy and my wheels being out of balance and probably need new tires. My brakes they told me were at 20% on the front and caused the rotors to warp. I hardly believe it but we'll see.
On my Max i have only noticed the glovebox and vibration when i hit the brakes, but reading these stories and from my own experiences makes me not want to go in to get it fixed even with the TSBs. I know i should but I cannot stand the dealer and their crappy service. I guess i'll go before the warranty is over.
this is a true story. I actually fought my service advisor at a local bar here in newyork. I ruffed him up pretty bad and all said and done he knew i had a warrant out for my arrest and he didnt rat on me. Now we are pretty good friends. So DONT HATE UR SERVICE ADVISOR!! They may be lazy but they are on ur side!!

A service advisor friend of mine at a domestic stealership, told me that they actually get a higher hourly rate for warranty than they charge retail. So in some cases they make more for warranty work than for retail.
EdRomo86 - If the problem with your glovebox door is that it seems to stick out slightly at the upper right corner, a new door probably changes nothing.
There are several variations of this, but the most common fix is to replace the black nipple inside the upper left corner of the glovebox with a longer one. That keeps the upper left door corner from going in quite as far, which, since the bottom edge of the door is on fixed hinges, means that, when the door is closed, the top right corner will go further in and be flush with the dash.
I bumped into my service manager at a local pizza place last week, asked him to order the extended nipple for me, and he took down the info and said he would call me when it came in.
In my humble opinion, among the many '04 Maxima glovebox door misalignment problems I have read about here over the past sixteen months, I have yet to see one where I felt the problem was really the door; the problem is the ALIGNMENT of the door. The proper fix (and the one the service departments SHOULD be doing) is adjusting the existing door, not wasting time and (Nissan's) money on a new one, which they will find will still have to be adjusted when it is installed.

I just took my '04 in to Grubbs because the sunroof wouldn't close and one of the chrome strips on the roofline still had the shipping tape on it. They quickly fixed the sunroof following a TSB and tried to clean of the chrome piece but there was a lot of residue. My service technician said he ordered a whole new piece since he couldn't get it completely clean. So far, so good ....
