First Chip on Bumper

Those construction trucks are so f****** annoying. There was one barrelling down the highway with the safety tarp blowing in the wind about 2 feet higher than the top of the truck. The back of the truck was filled way past the brim with rocks and they were flying out from the truck all over the highway. The truck was in the far left lane and the rocks still reached all the way into the right lane (4 lane highway). Rocks were goign everywhere. Anyway, now I have a small chip which shows the black under the paint, and another mark which didn't take off the paint, but shows a little indention/crack in the paint. Hopefully the rest of the black marks are just bugs; I'll know after the next wash.

Anyway, what's the best way to deal with this so it doesn't get worse? On my old car I used to put a dab of clear nail polish to keep it from spreading, and then apply touch up paint, but it never quite looked blemish free. Anyone have any ideas of how to make this chip disappear? The max is white and the black dot will drive me crazy.

Usually you clean out the chip. Put in some primer. Then build it up a bit with a layer or two of colour. And finally top with clearcoat so it's flush with the original paint surface.

I've also heard good stuff about Langka (sp). Its some polish that brings that last clearcoat layer to the same level as the original clearcoat.

I got my first stone chip after having my 04 for three weeks yesterday as well. I really do not know how bad it is because I cant stop crying to get a close look at it.

The first one always hurts bad ! But if you're like most people the pain will lessen and go away.

DUDE, did you get the license plate? if so you can so get this fixed. you just call your insurance compnay and they will contact the truck compnay verify they were on the road at the time it happened and had rocks in the truck and youre all set. this happened to me and chipped my bumper/hood/windshield/mirror and i sat and cried. I found out later that my insurance would have gone after the bastards. ya live and learn.

Nope. Didn't get the license plate number - didn't realize the insurance company would cover this. Next time though...

Depends on your insurance... some of them will cover this under comp, while others want to cover this under collission. And since it's really cosmetic rather than mechanical (unless your bumper fell off ) chances are you'll have to foot a good chunk of the bill of having it repaired/repainted -- depending on your deductible.

I've heard both sides though... I've heard of people getting their bumper repainted completely under comprehensive, but I've heard of others that got laughed at by their carrier.

I suppose it's worth a try though... worst they can do is say no. And laugh at you for trying.

These bumpers aren't ding friendly. If I had known I would have chosen black because it doesn't show up as bad. I just put some protectors on that are pretty thick to try and keep more from happening. It also covered 95% of the scratches already there. If anyone lives in NYC the guy that did mine is James Kim and he has a self run outfit called Mr Bumper Protector. His number is 646 296 3969. I'm going to put on one more because the rear bumper is so big . Working in Manhattan I have a new scratch everyday. Today I came out after work and found a metal tab from the top of a soda can on my hood. When I lifted it off I found that the person had actually carved into the paint on the hood. I wish I could put video surveillance in my car. When will the haters end the jealousy???????
