new 2004 SE owner - Painting the front grill

Hello guys!, this is my 3rd Maxima, "98" GXE (white), "01" GXE silver and now the best, "04" white frost - 35% tint front and back, K & N drop in. Proud to be part of the "04" group. I do have one question, has anyone painted the front grill on these cars? normally I would'nt even think of this (I would just replace it with an aftermarket) however with the white frost, I'm thinking that this might not look bad, I am also thinking about painting (white) the lower bumper portion between the cornering lights, in essence turning the whole front white! any comments would be welcome!

DLy2k1k. I bought a new "test" grille on ebay for $35 and painted only the teeth gunmetal gray metallic because it is a perfect match for the gunmetal centers on my Falken Torque 5 wheels. My Maxima is spirited bronze, so there's just a little contrast. I think it looks cool, everyone else seems to like it as well. I'd post a pic, but it says I'm not able to post attachments. If you'd like to see pics send me your email and I'll send them to you.

Hey DLy2k1,

I was thinking the same thing. I have the same colour and thought that it would look good all white but didn't have the courage to do it. If you do, I would love to see how it turns out.

Good luck.

As long as you take your time spraying it, it should turn out well. I'd be concerned about flaking paint since you are painting a really smooth surface. Maybe a high-adhesion primer would be a good start and then work up to the colour coat.

Thanks for the input!, I have e-mailed a couple of the members who have had this done to see how they "prepped" the grill for painting. I am also going to see body shop this afternoon to see how much he would charge to do this. I pulled the grill off of the car last night (pretty easy) maybe 1/2 hour.

I got mine painted at a body shop that my dealer uses. They did an excellent job using factory paint and clearcoat. Cost me $150. It looks great, but be careful, you will get chips. Pics on my cardomain. I remember seeing a guy on Cardomain who has a white 04 with the grille and the lower grille painted body color. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

Alright after looking at the grill on "04 maxse" (very nice!!) for the last couple of days. I have decided to have the grill painted white to match the car. My bodyshop quoted me $ 150.00 Canadian (which is pretty cheap). I will post photo's once it is complete.
