Ok guys - I need to shod my 6th Gen Max with some serious winter rubber.
I have the SE so I have the 18s, but I think I will go with 17s for the winters, along with a new set of winter rims.

Any experience yet? I see from the Tire Rack that the Dunlops are highly rated, although normally I would just go and buy some Michelins.

Experience/Recommendations?

I've enjoyed my Goodyear Ultra Grip tires. They feel just like all seasons on the road. But the have great grip on snow and ice. They're a performance oriented tire, so they do give up some traction in the deep snow, compared to a dedicated hardcore snow tire.

 

Nokian WRs.

You can even leave them on year round if you wanted to as they're rated for year round performance.

Went with Dunlop Sport M3 winter tires all around, on brand new
Motegi Racing FR7 Gunmetal rims.Should look and work good.

 

Being a brand new owner of a Maxima I can tell you I like the Goodyear rubber that is on there, BUT. My last vehicle I only put Michelin Pilots on it, and let me tell you that is the best tire going. I drive to Nevada every winter where I live and I drove through many snow storms including a hum dinger in Denver. There is nothing better than Michelin.

 

I have an 04 Max in silver and living in Ontario, Canada, I feel somewhat obliged to put on snow tires. A friend in Montreal put on a set of Cooper Weather-Master S/T 2 tires. I know nothing about Cooper Tires except that they are made in the US. Anyone have any experience with them or any suggestions, positive or negative would be appreciated.

Sort of cheap off-brand tires. I'm sure they're going to be better than the best all-season tires.

 

All i can say is Bridgestone BLIZZAK's!
i love how they drive in the cold weather/rain/snow/sleet or anything.
Just my personal preference, there are alot of winter tires out there, you just have to find the right one for you.

 

Just be aware that as the tread on your Blizzaks gets to the 1/2 way point they become all season tires.

 

If your looking for a great snow tire have a look at the Nokia/Hakkapeliita, they are a little expensive (I think I paid about 650.00 cdn rubber only) but I had them on my 98' Max and they were the best. I'm in Edmonton and we need winter tires! I am looking at putting on my 04'

I would say get the Nokia Hakkapeliita 2's. You can stud them as well. Nice tire, I get mine on Tuesday!
Anyway they are rated very high.

 

I just order some michelin alpin 245/45 on sale at sears for $197.00 each
they look good and offer excellant grip, for my 2004 smoke

I've heard good things about those Nokia's. I've never seen a dealer who stocks them.

 

Nokians are bar none, the best tire snow manufacturer. The only thing that competes in their category are the Gilslaveds (Swedish snow tire). I ran Nokians on my car last winter and never got stuck, even in thick Upstate NY snow.

 

My dealership recommended the Blizzaks and also said to wait to the last minute before having them on and have them removed as soon as the season is over.

I priced them on tirerack.com a couple of weeks ago and I believe they were 243$/each



So its $1000+ for tires or I buy a 5000$ truck for the season and gain most of that money back by selling it at the end of winter... My choice is pretty much made at this point.

 

So when do you get your POS truck? lol
