VDC Has anyone pushed IT?
don't push it, VDC stands fer Very Dangerous Cshat
Whats your reasoning behind asking if anyone as pushed the VDC botton? It just shuts off your vehicles' stability system, so no throttle or brake will intervein when you oversteer or understeer. BUT, in daily driving, the only time you'd probably notice this is when its wet on the ground or the ground has a layer of fluffy stuff. Its OK to have it shut off

I haven't intentionally pushed my SL yet, but I do leave the VDC and TCS systems on at all times. I was delayed for months in getting my Maxima because I was not interested in buying one without VDC/TCS.
There was one time when I did an extremely quick lane change to the left, then back to the right (a driver pulled out in front of me as I was bearing down at 55 mph), where I had the feeling the system may have kicked in very briefly.
The only other two times I felt something unusual was going on both happened when I was backing up at a fast clip (around 30 mph) and cut the wheel sharply. Made all kinds of clunking noises underneath.
I have been babying my Maxima so far, but the time is coming when I will find out how well the VDC/TCS can compensate for my miscalculations . . .

I have pushed it, and pushed it hard. There is a delay when vdc comes on and when the indicator light comes on. By the time it says slip, it has already been working for a while. The trick is to feel when it's going to bite and adjust your throttle so it doesn't slow your exit speed down but still hang on the edge to get vdc to kick in just a tad;-) . Trail braking works real well with it too. Suprisingly it's quite effective. Obviously not as effective as my old racelogic unit but it does alright.

Zeke - VDC should have absolutely zero effect on gas mileage. Even though it is 'on' control switch wise, it is actually in a 'wait state' monitoring car movement, etc, looking for any indication the car may be nearing an out-of-control or unstable situation.
For many drivers, VDC may never actually do anything. But for aggressive drivers, or non-aggressive drivers in an emergency control situation, it may operate a few seconds every now and then. But it does little things like applying the brakes on one wheel for intervals as low as a tenth of a second. Just tries to keep the car from skidding out of control. VDC has nothing to do with gas mileage.

The brake cover:

The gas pedal:

The dead pedal:

You should be able to get everythnig form the dealer for about $70. The dead pedal is from a 350Z and the other 2 are from the 20th anniversary Maxima.
These are not a perfect fit. They need to be made to fit with a dremel tool.
Before doing this, i would check out the new pedals on the new Altima SE-R. They are very similar to these and probably fit right into the Max.

Please keep in mind that if you decide to take some turns when it's either snowing or raining VDC will help...UNTIL... you start to hydroplane. At this point NOTHING...I repeat...*NOTHING* will help you. Traction, VDC, awd, whatever.... your hydroplaning and you ain't stoppin till your *tires* (key word here...tires) decide to grip the tarmac. Another reason why one of the most fundamental and crucial upgrades are tires.
SO...VDC is great as long as you got some contact with the road.

VDC as i said will handle it. Equivalent to about 15-20 percent slip on my old Racelogic. Only problem is that the traction control is primative, which is why I also said with practice and the right line VDC and not traction will bite. YOu don't want the primative traction control cutting throttle and re applying it suddenly. With this in mind I have initiated 4 wheel slides on WARM tires in 90 + degree weather into turns that will *not* trigger vdc or traction control. The same turns on Cold tires for a couple of laps produced unpredictable behavior. I would say that Nissan has configured the slip quotient to allow a slight degree of aggressiveness. And again, VDC works even if the SLIP light doesn't show. So there, hope that answers your question.
I will revisit this question, once I have my entire suspension re-done soon along with some slicks.
