ABS Self Test Noise?
ABS Self Test Noise?
Been hearing a noise when my 04 max is first key started and put in gear. (on first acceleration when I just start driving) Noise sounds like a solenoid valve or servo motor. Lasts about 1 sec
The dealer originally said it might be an electric motor mount and now tells me that it's ABS system self test. He says this is normal for the car and no repair needed.
Has anyone else ever heard this?
Should I press the dealer to fix or find another dealer (I am sure that if I drive a new Max I won't hear this noise!)

It is an ABS test for sure.
The reason for the noise on acceleration is because the system needs motion of the rotor (ie: wheels) to proprly calebrate. If it did the self test when the vehicle was idling (wheels not turning), would not provide accurate test.
Hope that helps.

ABS test?
I came hear suspicious of that. Funny how I have had the car 18 mos and just now noticing? After a fresh start, put in gear, I hear a quick gunting or vibration noise and feel it thru the brake pedal. My old Sienna did this and I am certain it was an ABS test. Any confirmation out there?
