Oem Stereo Upgrade?

I love my new 04 MAX, the OEM stereo is great. The problem is that it is so good it reminds me of when I was young, single, no mortgage, had hair, with tons of cash in my pocket and had my 1986 Chrylser Daytona, and put a killer system in it. Pioneer deck, Rockford Fosgate Amps, Orion subs, Boston Accustic Mids and Tweeters, and the Stevie B. pumping. Oh to be young again,

I need a little more umf, but have been out of the car audio scene and don't know what to do.

I am not a big fan of changing my head unit, so keeping that in mind. What should I do

Upgrade the speakers? What brands

Add an amp? What brands

I want clear, crisp sound, with some decent bottom end.

Thank you all for your help in advance

Do you have the Bose system? If so I would just add a sub (say, one 10" or 12" Kicker solobaric in a sealed enclosure with a good amp that has a built in low pass crossover). I think the head unit is pretty good unless you are a real hardcore audiophile and I wouldn't go to the trouble of changing it out. You don't even need to run RCA cables to the trunk.. Just get a line level to RCA converter to tap off the speakers in the rear deck...
