Skyview replacement - a cautionary tale
Skyview replacement - a cautionary tale
Last week I had my skyview window replaced under the recall notice. All was well until I entered my car this past Monday after work and noticed about an inch of water in the forward cupholder between the front seats. Since it had been raining all day, I immediately open the skyview shades to see if I could detect a leak somewhere but everything felt dry. Not finding anything, I put my car in gear and as I started moving, a trickle of water came down from between the sunglasses holder and the overhead console housing.
I immediately went to the dealer where I had the glass replaced. They subcontract the work to a local auto glass company, but luckily they showed up quickly and I only had to wait about 2 hours to get my car repaired and back in my hands. They told me it had been improperly sealed in the region where a clip holds the glass in place. I haven't had a problem since, but I also haven't had my car in a steady rain since then either. I don't think a quick run through a carwash or a 5 minute spraying of the skyview with a hose would detect this. Hopefully, that's the end of the problem. I guess I'll know during the next rain storm if the problem is truly fixed. I'm just glad to have my car back with no apparent damage like water stains or electrical shorts.
