Broken Keyless Entry Remote

Both of the remotes for my keyless entry have cracked between the "Panic" button and the "Trunk" button. With one of them has now coming apart. They are being used by myself and my wife, one being exposed to my pocket and the other to a handbag.

Just curious of this is a common thing for the Maxima remote and if so, has anyone had them replaced?

Should be covered under your warranty - take them to the dealer and get them replaced - you will need them both to reprogram your entry system. I have had 8 Nissans over the years and never have broken a "fob" yet (guess I'm just lucky)...

I had broke mine too. But it is at back side of the keyfob and where it holds the keyring. i use only Nissan key, but still it broke....

I asked my dealer for replacement, he laughed his a$$ off and said, keyfob are not covered and the dealer quoted $105 + programming costs... what was a total bs

Went to Ebay, got the brand new keyfob for $8, programmed it myself and it works great!!! So try Ebay....

I'm the only driver and both keyfobs are broken, the one so bad that it doesn't even stay together. And the second one which was never used, i managed to crack in the first two days. The key is not to wear nut huggers

Mine's fine. I've only used the one keyfob. Left the 2nd one with the spare key and valet key in a drawer at home.

You should be able to get a low cost replacement off a fleaBay auction. I keep seeing them listed every time I search for "2004 Maxima" or "04 Maxima". I think the cost is usually $40US+shipping. Certainly way less than the dealer. Alternately try JR Nissan online. They offer discounts to .org members, using "MAXIMA" as your discount code.

FYI... Prior to recently replacing both my (and my wife's) OEM keyfobs for upgraded remote start transmitters, I found some keyfob leather cases right after I purchased my MAX @ one of the Nissan dealership's Parts Dept. They worked wonderfully!!! They fit like leather cases that cover your cell. You should look them up. I lucked up and found them @ the dealer, so I don't know where else one would look... Both OEM keyfobs have been retired along w/ their leather adornments, so if any of you are interested, maybe I'll let them go... Make me an offer I can't refuse...

I actually called the dealer that I bought the vehicle from in May. I told him what the problem was. He asked how many miles I had on it (currently 7300). He told me they would be covered under warranty and made me an appointment for next week to bring them in and get the others programmed.

I'll keep you posted on the outcome.

Good to hear you got them covered under warranty. Especially with 7300 miles, you'd think the dealer would cover just about anything for a customer to keep them happy.

The dealership covered the two remotes under warranty. I now have two new, programmed key fabs and was out the door in less than 30 minutes.

They never questioned a thing.
