That was something I wondered as well. I thought I mentioned something about it in another thread but got no response. I would think the 6th gen would be putting down 220-230 tq stock.

I talked to my the owner of the shop (mainly exhaust work) I've frequented in the last 8 years for service. He says that the gaskets in question are little more than a soft metal kind. Providing a bit more of a crush zone between the two pieces of exhaust pipe. When I asked him if they were necessary he said that normally no, if the exhuast pipes are in good shape they are not absolutely necessary. He went on to say that they can usually lay a small bead of high temp silicone between if there are small leaks, but that they rarely do that.

I would assume that most of the Y-Pipes sold to date have not gone out with those kits, and there has not been any posts about leaks so far. That, and the feedback from my exhaust guy would lead me to believe that the kit is probably not necessary, but might be a good precautionary measure. As the vehicle becomes older and the stock exhaust sections wear, these gaskets would become more critical for a good fit.

CM.

Re-use your stock gaskets. Even without Gaskets mine had no leaks. The only thing you will need to purchase (not sure if greg included these in the latest purchases) are 2 bolts to mount the rear section. Check out my other posts in this thread for exact sizes as I can't remember them off the top of my head at 4 in the am!!

For those who have done business with CE, how long did it take to get your order? Were there any problems?

Just curious...

I received my Y - pipe today. Will install this weekend along with oil change. Is there an O2 sensor on the stock cat? If so, what do u do with it since there is no provision for O2 sensor in y pipe?

Is your y-pipe for a manual or auto?

So your CE y-pipe doesn't have a thing for the o2 sensor? If so, that's good news. I have a manual also, and when I received my y-pipe I couldn't get it installed. One of the ends were too long and the y-pipe had an opening for the 02 sensor. The o2 sensors on the manual actually go before the y-pipe. Turns out that CE sent me the wrong pipe. They've been very helpful and are in the process of sending a new one. Since there is no provision for the o2 sensor on your y-pipe, it looks like you have the right one. By the way, you should definitely get a short throw shifter if you haven't done so already.

Pipe is installed. Took less than two hours. Very easy. Did that and an oil change while I was down there. Car seems more responsive. Not much of a sound change. New pipe is MUCH lighter weight than the original pipe. For $200 its worth it.

Put mine on today also... I agree the car feels more responsive, however traffic was terrible and I could not really try it out. I am looking forward to Sunday!

I am wondring if I have to reset the computer somehow so it doesnt try to compensate for the change from the addition of the y pipe? DO I just disconnect teh battery or do I do something else?

I have heard from independent sources that performance is diminished because the computer compensates for changes to the engine. Im fairly certain of this. The question is, what is the remedy? The compjuter can do a variety of adjustments to compensate for the change in exhaust flow, ie retard timing, adjust fuel mixture, etc. I think you just need to disconnect the battery for like 20 minutes or something like that. I hoping some Nissan guru here on teh org knows if the computer needs to be reset for mods, and if so, how to reset it.

The 5th gen is different than the older maxes were you just had to unhook the battery cable for a while. Im sure its a similar procedure for our cars as well. I would like to know how to do this because I have not reset the ecu since I got all the mods.

For those who have installed the CE y-pipe, do you get any strange noises from the under carriage? After my install I noticed a Tin rattle sound when accelerating. It sounds like a rapid vibration of thin metal. The sound is not there at idol just acceleration.

Installed mine last weekend and I hear no unusual sounds. Is everything tightened? Also, make sure heat shield isnt touching anything.
