Sirius Radio Install
Sirius Radio Install
What up people, had a quick question. I got Sirius Radio for Christmas and was wondering if its best to take it to the dealership for the install since my max came pre-wired for satellite radio. Also, thing is, i also got the reciever, Car Docking Kit, Antenna and Remote. Does the dealership make it so that when you push the SAT button you can control the volume and stations through the steering wheel? Or will they have to mount the Car Docking Kit to somewhere in the car and physically use the receiver to flip though stations since I bought it through best buy... Anyone?
I got Sirius too. I tried it out last night by just laying the antenna on the dash and using the FM reception. I was able to control the volume through the steering wheel. I'm going to call my Nissan dealer on Monday and see what they say.
I'll post my findings...

If you are talking about the PNP, the factory pre-wiring is for different type of receiver and the two are not compatible. Go to the following to see what the receiver that hooks up to the pre-wiring looks like and what is involved in the installation process for it. Two different animals. There are ways to "hard wire" the PNP's into in-dash radios but I doubt that a Nissan dealer would do the install for you.

Phil is correct, the dealer option is the only way to get it integrated. I have Sirius (off the shelf, not the built in since the prewired harness wasn't available when I got my car) and am wondering if anyone knows if the Max radio (the upgraded version) has RCA-ins on it?
The FM modulator is degrading of the quality and it cuts out a lot of volume, and the tape adapter seems to distort. The only other option I have is to get what I believe is called an antuator, essentially a reverse amplifier to reduce the sound coming out of the 1/8 jack on the sirius unit. Even with the output level as low as it goes, it distorts through the tape adapter.
Anyone know about the RCAs?
Thanks
Grant

Click the link in my sig to see the photos.
Just search for AAI-NIS on EBAY, it will bring up all of them. Make sure you check out the sellers 'Ebay Store' as I found it to be cheaper there. The unit is compatible across most of the Nissan/Infiniti line.
Good Luck
