the 6th gen has a 4 spd AT?
Going through the bulletins and I see that they posted a new one for Altima,Sentra, Maxima and Quest with 4 spd AT. Talking about the rough shifting between 1st and 2nd. My 6th gen has rough shifting and I gave them the TSB on the 5sp AT and said my car didn't fall into the category of it. Asked if they at least looked for the problem and he said no. So I had repeated the question "so you mean to tell me that I came in with a problem and since my vin etc doesn't fall within the TSB, you didn't even check it?" He was like "oh no we checked it but couldn't duplicate it". It's going in monday for the 11,275 service and a couple other things. Guess what else it's goin in for......I hate my AT, it's so damn notchy between 1st, 2nd and 3rd it's ridiculous. I'd like to drive a new one to see how smooth they are

Smoken'04 - My '04 SL has exactly the same 5 speed tranny as your SE, and it shifts smoothly. You should not have to put up with a jerky tranny in a $30K vehicle with 11K on the odo.
I would urge you to keep after the dealer until the jerkiness is addressed. The problem cannot be expected to 'just go away', and will definitely reduce the value of the car should you decide to sell it or trade it in.
I regret you are having TWO problems: tranny shifting and dealer indifference.

joemax1 - Answered your private message about this before I saw your post here. In summary, if your tranny clunks at the 1st to 2rd shift more than very occasionally, something is not right, and not acceptable in this car. The clunking probably means there is a delayed shifting action, probably due to an improper tranny adjustment, and this will put abnormal stress on some part(s) of the tranny.
Mine kind of hesitates from first to second sometimes (it's the 4spd auto). It's not real bad, and doesn't do it every time I start off...although I think I've kind of learned to let off the gas and adjust for it. I'm glad to see there's a TSB for it. I just hope the nissan folks don't try to tell me its not harsh enough or something.
Willster - Adding to SilverBelle04's info, the SL was equipped with a 4 speed auto tranny until Feb 6th, 2004, which means Nissan built SLs with 4 speed trannys for over twelve months (04 production began in Jan '03). SLs built since Feb 6th, 2004 have exactly the same tiptronic tranny as all SEs have had from the start.
