E3 spark plugs

Anyone heard of these (E3 spark plugs). I came across an article today in my automotive design and production magazine. Looks like these are written into epa standards for 19kW engines. The Plugs seem to be really good claiming anywhere from 3%-13% increase in fuel economy and on average a 6% boost in HP. Sounds like a nice MOD for $9 a plug. Any thoughts?

I may look into this if my car ends up not turning into a lemon.

Also, has anyone done a how to guide for changing the plugs in the car?

so, the bad news is nothing is out for the newer max's.

E3 said:
We do not make a plug for your 2004 Maxima at this time. When we last looked at the demand for this particular plug, it was not high enough for us to make due to the large quantities that we have to produce on each production run. We will continue to review aftermarket demand and add it to the assortment as soon as it is feasible.

Sincerely,
Brad Davis

Their E3.48 plug fits the I30 and G35 which come with the V6 3.5l engine (listed on their products page). Would they not fit the Maxima?

they also say that the 99-01 max uses the e3.56 and the 95-98 use the e3.48 which is the same ones as the G35 and we all know thats not right.

Although it does look like they have the right plugs for the 3.0 and the 3.5

Also the I30 had the 3.0 and the I35 had the 3.5

I emailed them with the spark plug gap in the manual of:
Spark plug gap (Nominal) in (mm) 0.043 (1.1)
We'll see what they say.

Here's a better way to find out...
the 2001 maxima calls for a PFR5G-11 which is a E3.56
which is the same gap as our car. the only question is-is the PFR5G-11 from the 01 the same size as the 04 PLFR5A-11. I have a feeling that they have a different thread size. Any thoughts?

Slow at work so i called NGK...long story short is no the plugs are completely different. Anyone know what the thread size, hex size, and reach is for the 04 max plugs? I can't find anything

Got to love the internet...I can find anything I need to know with enough time.

So here is what I know-
thread size is 14mm
hex size is 16mm
reach is 26.5mm
gap is 1.1mm

This appears to match up to the 2003 I35 Specs meaning the plug would be a
E3.48 plug. I am waiting for E3 to let me know if this is correct. Isn't the I35 the same engine as the 04 max? According to ngk it is(share the same spark plugs) so hopefully these plugs are right on. SO what **** said
Whew that was fun

Garbage. I'd stay away from these simply because they make bogus claims like that. Do the benefits compound when you throw a Tornado in there?

The EPA uses them as a standard. I think that makes these guys credible...but to each his own. I have examined their site and their data...seems rock solid and scientific to me. However, a lot of the data i have come across lately is with smal engines including 2 stroke and 4 stroke engines in motorcycles. So you may be correct that these are garbage in a car. But this article did get into a major automotive magazine.

I guess it's what you compare them to. They're surely better than gummed up old spark plugs, but I will eat my pants if these things offer those numbers over oem in-good-condition plugs.

Regardless, the company doesn't offer anything that will fit into our cars. It seems that our spark plugs have a huge reach thread of 26.5mm. Most cars have a 3/4" reach thread. It's my understanding that the company is trying to become a OEM supplier. I am sure something will turn up with these guys one way or another.

This little side project taught me a ton about spark plugs. Now i really know what to look for when buying a new set.
