so i painted my calipers... (pix now!!!)
they're red... i dont know if i like it very much, but i'm going with a red, silver, and black theme. you tell me what you think...
wheels, chrome in the headlights, and the grille are going to be black.
and the engine bay, interior accessories, and what-not are going to be red
and well... the car is silver and the interior is black.
i'll post pictures for you guys after class today, and you can decide for yourselves. beware though, my car is in the early stages. lol

Red calipers was my first "Mod" It was the first thing that came to mind when checking her out before taking her home.
I stopped by a few weeks later and my salesman thought I got brand new calipers already. then he gave me a big compliment on the paint job.

pal - i know it doesn't really sound like such a good idea, but when i see the lower valence grille on the stock bumper, it's black... plus i've seen MANY wrx's doing the "gunmetal"/black look on silver cars.
i dont know... maybe i'll change my mind

I thought about painting mine red... but not on white. I also know too many people that wouldve given me **** about a "Fake brake kit" look. So I went with gunmetal gray. Looks better than the the green color my stocks were turning.

Wait, I've done this before. Oh well, post pics. I want to do this mod next. Do you guys think red would go with my car? If not, what colors? Black? Bronze, like my rims? ANy other color?

okay folks.... it's a little rainy around here lately, so forgive the un cleanliness. (the calipers are dirty too. NOT because of quality)
i haven't really decided if i like it THAT much yet... but i guess there's nothing i can do now. so go easy on me if you don't like em! lol
mmmmm T1s'...
gotta love that factory lift kit!
i misplaced the keys so i couldn't move the wheels a little to show the rear caliper... maybe some other time.

took the caliper bracket off. Taped off all working parts on the caliper itself, and put newspaper all inside and outside of my fender wells to prevent overspray.
i almost broke my thumb taking off the rear caliper due to unintelligence, so that slowed me WAYYYY back off schedule. Took about 3 full days for me... lol
it should take a normal person around a day or so...
just make sure you SCRUB the calipers, and brackets with paint thinner (spray can said it was the best chemical to use for adhering too) or degreaser, and use a wire toothbrush.
you can buy two kinds of paint. the spray on in a can, or the paint on with a brush.
can is cheaper... around $7. took me a 1 1/4 (2) can to complete all four calipers.

I painted mine red also (smoke maxima). I didn't take them off, just masked them well with tape and newspaper after cleaning, and sprayed with brake paint (high temp). Took me about 4 hours to do all 4 wheels. I like the look....especially with the drilled and slotted rotors...

the WHOLE caliper and caliper mounting bracket. EXCLUDING the cyldinder and the boot around it, bleeder valve, and of course the metal line connector should be painted.
*however! there are pieces that can be disconnected from the caliper, and bracket. such as, the pad mounts (metal brackets that can be pulled off that the pads slide into place with), the rubber boots that hold your pins and keep them from gettin the hi temp grease dirty, and of course the pads and metal plates on the backs of them.
tape off the entire master cylinder and the rubber boot. and whatever else i just told you not to paint that cannot be disconnected.
you do NOT need to prime with primer paint if you are using a spray on paint can.
(atleast i'm pretty sure. just check the INSTRUCTIONS and read carefully)
also, you do not need to do anything special other than just scrubbing the hell out of those dirty calipers. just clean, apply COAT'S of paint. and that's it. no primer no nothing else. reasembally is cake, just remember exactly what you took off, and what you left on. (DO NOT FORGET THINGS!!!!!!! these are your brakes we're talking about!!!)
with "brake coloring kits" you may have to do a step by step process involving primer. again check the instructions that come with them.
you can buy the paint at ANY automotive store. Even wallmart has it. (duplicolor)
It took me so long, because i MADE SURE everything was cleaned properly. i used that wire brush until my brakes were raw silver. lol
if i have forgotten anything, please remind me so i can fix my responses.
and BTW.... if you try this... DO NOT HOLD ME RESPONSIBLE IF YOU MESS UP IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM FOR ANY OF THE THINGS I JUST SAID IN THIS POST!!! THIS EVEN MEANS AFTER REASEMBALLY...
im broke enough as it is! lol
