Perfect rear spoiler!!! Finally!!
After searching for a rear spoiler that was a little more exciting than the plain lip spoiler, and a little more exciting than the G35 spoiler or Accord spoiler, I think I finally found the perfect spoiler for hte 6th gen Max. Its from a 2002+ Subaru Impreza WRX. Its the lower rear spoiler, not the big giant one that comes on the WRX STi.
Dealer wants about $550 for it. You can find replicas for under $200 online. It has a cleared 3rd brake like built in, and it looks waaaaay better in person.
I went to the Subaru dealer in Costa Mesa becuase they had one in stock and I took pics of the spoiler sitting on the trunk. There are bolts sticking out of the spoiler, so in the pics, the spoiler sits about 2 inches higher than when its bolted down. This thing looks really really sharp. ****No, Im not putting a yellow spoiler on. It just happened to be yellow****
In fact, when I was test fitting it, everyone inside came out to see what I was doing and ALL agreed that the spoiler looks like it was made for the car. Everyone was amazed. The angles of the spoiler seem to flow with the MAxima's lines.
Anyway, here are a bunch of pics. Let me know what you think:
Here is a close up. Not how the angle of the outside of spoiler exactly matches the line of the trunk of the MAxima:
Here is a picture of a black Subaru WRX parked next to me with the spoiler on the back of his car. Note how mine looks rather plain without a spoiler now:

Right, the G spoiler is about 2 inches narrower, about an inch lower to the trunk, about half as thin, and it is about 1-2 inches less in depth. this one has some interesting angles that arent really captured on film.

but it's not black
j/k, personally, I would like something with sharper lines wiht the mounts as wide as the trunk lid. At least its the same width as the rear. that one looks a little "bubbly, soft" Not bad, but not my ride either. Happy you found your spoiler. I suppose it would grow on me.
get someone to photoshop it on w/o the oem spoiler. I bet that would look even better.
what's the section missing in the middle? were leds there or is it just a section cut out?

The brake light on the spoiler has clear lenses, so it looks missing on a yellow spoiler. Also, remember, its sticking up quite a bit cuz of the bolts under the spoiler. Wait til its black and mounted. I know it will be awesome.
If someone can PHOTOSHOP it black and lower it on to the trunk and erase my son from the picture, that would be cool. Sorry Matt (my son!!!)

I was checking out a 5th gen Max and was thinking how 90's the rear spoiler was, really it does nothing but hold a brake light. I'm relieved this trend has faded, much like the clear taillights. Your car looks great don't go to far.........

I like the tinted tail lights but most likely I would get a ticket here in Brooklyn, NY. The spoiler looks OK. The main thing is if you like it, it will be on your ride. Later Warren

I think it might look good when done. One of the best I have seen yet for the Max. But I generally agree with some others that when you add a wing, you should think about getting rid of the lip spoiler.
Can't wait to see it done.
Thanks for sharing.....

I plan on tinting the cleared brake light dark to match everything. I thikn it will look better when installed flush with the trunk. Trust me, it looks better in person, especially the front part of the spoiler.
Thanks to sparq for the very nice photoshop work. Thats why I love this site. I also appreciate everyone's opinion, whether good, indifferent or bad. I am sourcing a spoiler thats much more reasonably priced than the $550 the dealer wanted for that spoiler. I also located a carbon fiber one nearby me. It was offered on ebay but no one bought it. If I get that one, should I leave it unpainted to see the carbon fiber, or paint it. Here is the closed ebay auction for that spoiler. Tell me what you think. Keep the opinions rolling.

I would not paint the spoiler. Carbon Fiber is made to be seen. Is this what you are finally going to get? If it is post pictures. I would interested to see what is looks like on the Max. I already have Carbon Fiber pillar inlays. Later Warren

oohhh, D, get the carbon wing. that'll get a lot of attn. and if you don't like that, then paint it a color (well technically your choice isn't a color).
if not for the carbon pattern, think about the CF primary function: weight. you slap the oem one on and your family will have oversized bicepts.
i figured you'd tint the brake light, so didn't bother suggesting it.

I was concerned the CF spoiler would look more slapped on rather than blending in with the car. I sent an email to the seller of the CF spoiler. Ill see what happens. If no response then I think Ill go for the OEM one and paint it black. The person holding the spoiler is my middle child, Matthew, aged 16.
