2004 SL With 83,000 miles for sale at dlrshp
There is a 2004 SL at a nearby dlrshp for sale with an asking price of $19,800. A friend of mine is thinking of purchasing the car because of course, it is a nissan and he knows about the reliability of our cars. My question is, would any of you be scared off because of the miles and would you offer the dlrshp less money for the car?

I wouldn't touch it. The mileage is outrageous. And would you offer the dealership less money for the car, wtf ... who in their right mind would pay what the dealer asked for? Have you ever hear the word "negotiate." If your friend really wants the car he should do his homework and find out what the car is really worth (might be difficult because the mileage is unique) and go in and lowball them. I did that when I bought my last house and saved more than $35,000 over what I was prepared to pay.

Leave the damn car at the dealership. I bought my SE used in PERFECT condition with 19700 miles for $20,000.00. And even then i was uncertain about purchasing it used. That mileage is nuts, that car must have been driven to hell and back.
If your friend is willing to spend that much money on something that used, have him purchase something new that comes w/a factory warranty.

I am with the rest of the group. This deal sucks. The car has almost 100k miles on it in a year. WTF was this a cross country demo car. That kind of mileage is nuts. Well, I take back the comment because a co worker puts on 40K in a year but drives 140 mi to and from work alone so...
But Your friend can do way better. If the car were like $10K i may consider it.

IMHO..i htink 83000 miles is when you should get ready to fix ur car or trade it..IMO..even good cars like the maxi..would not be so great in performance or other issues if it has 83000 miles..WOW..and his asking about $19 K thats kinda crazy..i have a 2002 TL for sale 130,000mile only $6 grand..haha..that maxi will get there in matter of months.

That 83k mi car is gonna end up going to a whosale auction. The only thing keeping the value of the car so high is the year of it. That's like 6-8 years of driving done in a year. I am guessing the car has highway miles on it which brings it down to like a 55-60k mi car...but still...no thanks...get something better.

You could do a lot better. I just bought my '05 SE for $25,550 brand new with 28 miles on it when it was delivered, which is only 6k more than what that dealership is asking. Don't do it. Be patient and you'll get exactly what you are looking for at the price that you are willing to pay. Good luck.

The '04 Maximas have been out for TWO years and five weeks (since March 2003), so, assuming the car was an early one, that is just over 40K per year.
But, for this 'deal', that changes nothing. I would still have trouble paying over $14,500 with that kind of mileage. And everything else on the car would have to be right before I would go that high.

I dont think the miles are that big of a deal in itself despite being way high for its age. While not as good as average miles for the car, it almost DEFINENTLY means a lot of easy highway miles vs hard stop and go miles, unless the previous owner pretty much lived in the car doing deliverys around town and what not.
I agree with everyone else about passing on that one though. There are sooo many around that can be had for that price with only 20k or so on em that its not worth risking it. I'd take the 80k mile car for the right price, but being the same price as a low mi one with some warranty left to go, its a no brainer.
