so far my only options i'm left with, is FM transmitter(which is least best for audio quality) or tape deck adaptor which im gonna be taking out soon.

Well, with the recent boom in car ipod adaptors, i was wondering if at least one of them was compatible.

There is nothing out there that will allow you to control your ipod with the stock radio controls. You are forced to do one of several things, but will never have full functionality.

You can:
A: Buy the Pac auxilary input thing that hooks up to the sat radio connection, but no controls
B: Use the tape deck
C: Use a FM transmitter
D: Buy a new HU that has aux inputs

none of these options allow you to use your steering wheel controls or stock HU control.

Also Apple is releasing the "ipod your Nissan" sometime soon, it's on their website:
http://www.apple.com/ipod/accessories.html
And you said you are removing your tapedeck? What are your plans? If it's aftermarket HU then you are set, there are plenty of HU's that have IPOD support out there for example every new Alpine allows for direct IPOD control...
I just bought this for my wife's car:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-USOvvQo...&search=alpine
And this is a really good deal:

Good luck!!

There are a few items out there (they are expensive though) that replace your in dash 6 CD player with a 'cradle' of sorts for your ipod... you can then control it through your steering wheel controls. Too bad there isn't a piggy-back for the ipod (so you could use both - although I'm not sure that you'd really need to if you had an ipod.. Why couldn't Nissan just have put MP3 playback in our car?).

As I recall, they are like $150-300 for the ipod adapter. I recently saw one on Grubb's I think.

I put in the Pioneer AVIC-N1. Pioneer also makes an Ipod adapter that allows me to use my touch screen to control my ipod. Pretty neat!

I'm an idiot for not being specific. Well about the adapters, i was talking bout the one that hook up to the HU and allow you to control it trru the radio controls (like the Neo iON - www.carplayer.com). And about the tape deck, i just want to get rid of it, so i have more space for future add-ons. I was thinking a spring-loaded pop out ipod charging dock. But lately ive been getting into the carPC modding stuff, so you know, slot load DVD burner in place of cdplayer, USB ports, refabricated front dash, touchscreen etc. One prob is the stock screen shows car info, like door open, Trunk, gas distance, radio station, HVAC info etc. dunno what im gonna do about that. Well anyway im going off topic.

I just might go the Pac route

have you seen the mod where the oem screen is at the bottom? then you have room up top for custom. as far as iPod, only what's mentioned above, same that is in the sticky.

FYI, the CD changer and tape deck are one unit...if one goes they both go!!
Sounds like you have big enough plans and will be getting rid of the changer as well...
By the way this is what Nismo meant by "oem screen is at the bottom"
