Just bought a Nismo CAI
Just bought a Nismo CAI
Well I was curious if the nismo cai would fit being that the intake is for the Altima. Well anyway I bought one from mynismo.com and I guess you could say I took one for the team
. And guess what, it fits perfectly and the instructions that came with it even tho its for the altima is accurate for the max. The intake even comes with a water diverter so there is no need to buy that. What I notcied is that i feel alittle more umph in the low and mid range. I like it and I think if you are interested in a cai , the nismo would be the best bang for the buck as for a cai goes. Here are some pictures I took of the intake. BTW I am selling my berk intake with blitz filter, so if anyone is interested in it shoot me a pm or email.
Thanks for reading

I guess what I am trying to say is that the Nismo CAI is another option for us 6gen Maxima guys that want a cai rather than just to settle for a Injen or AEM.
Also on the warranty I dont know if it will void it or not. Then again the part is for a different car so I would think it wouldnt be warrantied. I will find out and make a post about it.
thanks for the compliments guys.
I would have to say it almost sounds the same but the nismo makes like a winding noise. Also with the berk it would be loud inside the car but the nismo isnt really heard from the inside, however iit is loud but I havent heard it from the outside while someone else drives my car. I guess I will make a small clip of the sound since I made a clip with the berk. Hopefully later on this week and will post it up.
Very nice. Way to be a successful test dummy. Makes me want to go out and get one now. Too bad i already have the Injen, even tho i'm sure i could go about getting rid of that if i needed too. How much did this run you?
Nismo CAI
The site actually has it listed for us now as a new product. Of course the the specs say altima and then there is the part about the hp gains to the rear wheels
But either way its great to know there is another source for intakes out there as well as finally a nismo part.

you really shouldn't compare a CAI to the BERK. You need to realise that there is a longer intake tube and that there are some extra parts on there that add up. Overall I would say it would cost you out of pocket an additional $40-$50 just to get the extra pipes bent and stuff to fit the car plus the water bypass valve. So it's really not that bad of a deal. However once a shop learns how to make one intake it's smooth sailing from there. Berk offers a decent setup and a decent price.
Nice job and thanks for being the test dummy. I like it when people are brave enough to pioneer something. Takes guts to risk our hard earned dough on a risky proposition that may not work. Now we can add Nismo to the list of intakes available for our car.

Now this performance mod I will consider. I really like the water inverter. Sis you look inside to clue us on how it works? The AEM one says it cuts off the air from below when it detects airflow is restricted.
AEM is the only other CAI i've seen with the Air Bypass Valve: http://www.coximport.com/aem/hotsheet.html
The other major concern most have is being the performance comes from the cold air, what about the Aluminum getting hot and heating the air? I wonder if we could insulate the outside somehow if overheating is forseen.
The densechargers are made of ABS plastic to prevent heating:
http://www.super-chip.com/densechargers.htm
like asked right above me, how simple is fitting it in there? I would swap it back to stock when visiting the dealer and possibly in the winter or if i see it running to hot on certain days.
as far as Nissan warranty, they've flat out told me:
Doesn't matter who made it or installed it. Simply, if a modification is shown to cause a malfunction, that malfunctioning part's warranty is void.

It looks like a good design, but I'd be concerned that a) they're worried enough to actually HAVE the diverter there... seems like water is a real problem, even if they have a work-around... and b) that the diverter would be pulling in some serious hot air, even compared to the stock intake.
Not hating or anything, I'm loving this thing right now... it doesn't look as hot as the Injen, but the price is right and the diverter "feature" actually puts it ahead of the Injen IMO.
i look at the diverter as compared to designs such as berk... about the same location when needed. i did some quick searching and found that the metal doesn't really get hot with the air moving inside and it dissapates heat better being alum.
major concern i have left is the filter. being down there it will need frequent cleaning.

And as far as the price, I think it's fair... it's $300 and change MSRP but you can find it for $270 or so. Most places carry the Injen for $265, and other than the fact that it's not polished, this seems to be at least as good... and you have the added diverter, which you can't find on the Injen.
I'm keeping an eye on this, mostly because I wanna know what ends up happening with his car... if after a few rain storms there are no problems, then I'll seriously consider it.

No offense to you kentzz, good work on the new intake, but had to make my feelings made.

Fernco home depot center for the rubber....cheap mounts, same thing as every other cheap intake. The price for me just does not add up to that. Some sheet metal and you could build after insulated a intake box near the battery and do the same thing as some of these intakes. Also....understand, driving in traffic.....these will do NOTHING FOR YOU. Open highway driving, they can make a small difference. Hell, I know I will get flamed for my dislike of these intakes....but they just look pretty. Now, the CAI will work better than a HAI....but one nice puddle, valve or not....HYDROLOCK. How much technology goes into bending a damn pipe and slapping on a filter with a few mounts.....$200 bucks plus?? Sorry if I crapped the thread.....I think I did, but a pulley will give you more than this, at least if you do not have a aftermarket stereo with big amps. But than, what do I know, my RWD V8 LS1 days are over. If some things did not work on a car like that......I just post some of these BECAUSE....some people think, "Slap on a intake and K&N....BAM!!!! Big MOD!!!" Again, happy to see new mods being posted, but I am a devils advocate. Just my 2 cents, but still had to post it....love me or hate me.

I think most of these things are overpriced, and hitting the $300 mark is just ridiculous for the components that go into this...
But still, I'm into the mods more for cosmetic appeal now than anything else. Nothing out there will give you the juice unless you're willing to drop some SERIOUS cash on the exhaust to get some of the restrictions out... but you're talking a lot of C-notes there. The only reason why I'm considering an intake is because a) just about anything performs better than stock, b) it looks nicer than stock and c) it sounds soooo much nicer than stock.

But don't mind me, let's concentrate on bashing CARCUS, THE MOD HATER!

edit: and where the F is SSR with that supercharger??

carcus, i'm sure no one will be hurt. unless they truely feel in their heart an intake adds xx HP. Like Viguera, I like the sound, look and less restriction. I honestly don't feel any desire for more power. If I did, I would have waited until it came with more power or could afford a G.
