Who has converted non-HID to HID?

Contemplating buying the conversion kit. Who has done it and how difficult was the install? Are there any other less expensive options for better lighting? I decided not to get the HID equipped SE from the Dealer because I didn't want to pay for all the other stuff as a package. Thanks.

a few ways...

1- you can buy 2 headlight hid assemblies and swap them with the halogen headlights (pretty much plug and play).

2- you can buy the projectors, ballasts and bulbs. this includes splicing wires, removing the stock halogen projector and adding the hid projector. A little more work involved. than the other methods

3- http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....88#post3645488

cheaper? buy it with HID... like others thankfully posted, there is a Sticky covering "How To" Anything less than oem is not brighter. Your only thing brighter than your halogen is oem HID.

i did it this way. i bought them from ebay, spent $405 for the 2 headlight assemblies + a pair of D2S bulbs from HIDPlanet.com

it took about 2 hrs, having a lift made it so much easier.

what about insurance? let them pay for it.

let me elaborate on what I said.... if you have insurance ($500 deductible) then its worth it for you to go through insurance.

for $500 bucks you get 2 new headlights that cost $850 a piece from nissan.

I knew I'd probably get this answer. I already looked at the how-to sticky, which doesn't give me all the options available, which was the question. It simply states how that particular person went ahead with his HID install and shows the difficulty level. Buying it with HID was not worth it to me since I didn't need all the other stuff that comes with the HID package which I think is called Driver's Preffered Package.

Thanks everyone for your helpful input. I'll look into those sites and choose the best route for me. Take care.

I figured you opted not to get HId b/c of the packaging. For me, it was perfect. I wanted every option. Let us know what you're gonna do and if you need more help.

Im in the same position as rays01se. I read through the the stickies, and many group buy forums, but yet i am still awaiting on the bulb size that i should get to replace the 9012 halogen bulb if i wanted to go HID.

tinted headlights

just wanted to know if anyone out there knows how to get my headligts/tailights tinted... i tried to start a new thread but it said i didnt have the rights to do it...didnt want to post this in a dfferent thread but i didnt have any option. any help would be greatly appreciated. my car is a majestic blue 2005 nissan maxima sl, just want to make the healights and taillights blend in with the car...i am in the process of finding black rims with the chrome lip...planning on 18" but i heard i could put 20s and up to 22s, would that mess up my suspension ?? i dont want to have to change the whole suspension or even modified just to change my rims...rather stay with them 18s and leave my suspension alone while keeping the looks and saving some bucks...thanks

the purpose of not allowing new threads is to cut back spammers and encourage newbies to read through other threads and stickies before posting. All of your questions have be discussed. It will be faster to look over old threads and titles than waiting for replies.

Once you post enough replies showing that you can add information, you'll be able to start threads. Please read the announcements, rules, and stickies.
welcome.

Look i did mine... The way I did it wasn't the best way, but I did it. I would suggest buy the assembly on ebay one side at a time. It will still be cheaper than buying them from the dealer. When I first did it, I thought if you just get the balast and blub harnest you can just exchange them, WRONG! I had to get the projection lens for the HIDs (ebay) and change them out. but it work and it just like factory!
