It's just about that time for Nissan to re-launch the 6th gen. Do any dealerships have any news for us with that? I'm dying to see what they've done to the 06.

I dont know but everyones talking about the 7th gen too...but everyone better get used to this car because I doubt it willl change much at all before 2010...I bet thats when the next complete redesign will occur. I mean they have retooled everything for this car, and the last body design lasted from the 4th-5.5. Look how long the pathfinder stuck around, until it looked completely outdated, I think this is what nissan likes to do. If anything for the 2007 I expect some exterior changes, like a different facia, and I guarentee a new grille. Thats all from my crystal ball lol.

I AGREE, I like the grille but the tooth is UGH... I think they should leave it chrome and just take out the tooth and slab the NISSAN symbol. Althought that is easy, they should do something to differentiate the Maxima from the Altima as far as the grille is concerned but I am sure they have heard the whining and crying about the "tooth!" It needs to be history..

Should be easy enough... call the dealer and tell them you're interested in an '06 and wanna know when they're getting them in... they'll spill the beans right away

Shouldn't be long though

I can update you guys. Pal379 is correct that is when the 06 is coming out and the only differences are little interior upgrades. I can also say that there is an altima hybrid coming out in the next 2-3 years. Also the altima and the maxima will soon have the CVT transmission like the murano. If Nissan had something new on the horizon it would have been at all the auto shows. No such luck.

Talked to my buddy at the dealership where I bought mine and he said he's still getting 05's and says they will see some 05's trickle in until early July. He estimates the first 06's to hit his lot late August at the earliest.

The 06' Maxima will probably have interior changes and minor exterior changes, however Nissan might do something special just because its the 25th anniversary of the Maxima. The 7th gen Max will probably be the next time they redesign the exterior, because Nissan generation go for 4 years, so 6th gen=2004=2007. The 2008 Max should be when we see them change the exterior.

Um, no it wouldn't. Nissan would severely hurt sales of the current incarnation of the 6th gen, by showing people what they have planned X-months from now.

Nissan has not taken the '06 to the auto shows or begun advertising it because there is nothing to show and nothing for sale yet. The only time Nissan advertises ahead for any model year change is when there is a complete redesign of the vehicle. That won't happen for the Maxima until the 2008 release of the 7th gen, probably in spring/summer of 2007.

Production of the 2005 began a little earlier than several posts here indicated. The assembly line was switched in mid-July of 2004, and the first '05s were at my dealer on August 8th of 2004. By my wife's birthday (Aug 22), he had 16 '05s sitting on his lot.

I would expect the assembly line to convert to '06s in mid-July again this year, with '06s reaching some dealers in early August, other dealers later on.

There will be almost no hoopla until the '06s are arriving at dealers, as the car will still be the current style, with some cosmetic changes in the front and rear facia.

I feel sure the '06 will have a tire pressure montoring system (law requires these by 2007).

I would expect the '06 to have a little boost in HP (up to between 275 and 290?). The third year of the 5th gen also had a power boost.

Nissan may also decide the time has come to make the interior less vulnerable to marring and distress.

I would love for the VDC to be made standard, but am not counting on it.

At some point, the Maxima will have a rear-view camera system. It will certainly be on the 7th gen, and could possibly be an option on the '06.

Nissan added smoke and coral sand during the '04 production run, and had no new colors for '05. I feel sure there will be one or two new colors for '06. I'm thinking some shade of green; either a very dark green or (more likely) a soft, dusty sage green. Neither 'spring green' nor 'British racing green' would look good on a car this big.

I am anxious to see how Nissan handles the 25th anniversary thing. Will all Maximas be marked in some way, or will there be a very special anniversary Maxima available 'at a cost'?

Whatever is going to happen will happen soon. I would even guess the assembly line will be shut down in order to begin the model switch around a month from now. As a Maxima fan, I find summer model changeover to be an exciting time of year.

They do anything special for the 5th, 10th, and 20th anniversary? I know the Z got some more horsepower for 35th. Also some other performance mods. Other than that thats it. Since the Maxima is a luxury sedan they might add more luxury features to it.

The fact is, my reply is a fact. The reason why Nissan didn't show off a redesigned 6th gen at various auto shows, isn't because they don't have one -- it's because they don't want to stall sales of the 2005. Seriously, how f*cking stupid can you be to not accept that? It's logic...They did the same thing with the current Altima for 2004, and the same thing with the 5th gen.

The plant shuts down on July 4 and then the close down for two weeks. After they come back from vacation they start producing 2006's. You won't see them til the first week of august. Watch I know this because we just ordered about 250 new 2006 at our stealership. Good day

I know that's what I did when looking for mine... waited until August and picked one off the lot for a discount. Luckily it had some good options and colors, but even if not I'd rather have an '04 in 8/04 and save $5-6k than have to wait in line and pay full price because the dealerships have no incentives to move the new ones...

But what do you have in the way of '05 models now just sitting in the lot? I'm asking because if the numbers are right, I might even look into dropping the 04 for an 05 before I get depreciated out the anus...

Almost all automotive plants shut down for a few days around July 4th. They are down for a very short period of time and do minor changes. Being an insider I know that Nissan is doing stuff in the Dechard plant, but not too much at the Smyrna plant. They haven't ordered parts from us yet. The dechard plant is expanding to support more power plants. When a car company starts to get ready for a new generation/model we get a lot of orders. So far GM is buying like mad and so is Hyundai. Toyota is soon going to be building a new plant in the states to support the Tundra and whatever else they fit into the plant. Last year things were very hush hush about the next year release until mid/late July. It's gonna be the same thing. As far as changes don't ask me I don't know, but like others have mentioned I imagine it will be cosmetic/durability things that will be changed. I am sure Nissan has quietly fixed their steering/tire issues by this point too. All in all the 06 maxima should be a very solid car now. I am sure we are going to see more support for XM/Sirus. Also a HP boost can be assured because of the new avalon and lexus models. The VQ35 has plenty of room for HP gains. The new Skyline is boasting a 450HP V6 twin turbo. Nothing more than a g35 on roids. Looks sweet. That's all for now.

Chrome door handles on 06 Max?

I was looking through nissans catalog and i noticed many of their cars share similar characteristics... One in particular, the Titan seems to have similar door handles as the max. I have seem some Titans with chrome door handles. Do you think it would be nice and/or possible to see it on the 06 max as an option? Share your thoughts!

I was looking at black..... but the one they had was an 05 with chrome wheels and I don't like them.. so my next choice was silver..

Grab the handles off a M45. They might fit and they're Chrome 'looking' (not sure if really an alloy).

I would feel chrome door handles would tend to break up the smooth Maxima lines more than add to the looks.

The handles may not stick out very far physically, but having them a different color than the body of the car would make them 'stick out' visually.

But its all in the eyes of the viewer, and the things I see going down the road these days are proof folks can see things very differently.

As to having chrome handles as a Nissan option on the 6th gen, I would doubt it. Other than the spoiler and chrome wheels (both nice 'money-making' options), Nissan has made very little in the cosmetic area available as an option on this gen.

I'm not sure about the looks but I can see how it would eliminate the problem of people's nails scratching the paint when they open the door.

Mine Are Chrome

Mine are chrome with colour coded centre sections ...the front ones have a rubber small button to open & lock the doors as I also have the magic keyless open and start feature...which I notice has been copied on the latest Toyota Avalon over there.

Check it out...
