bumped my mirror

I was at Sam's the other day. When I go back to the car I noticed my passenger side mirror was flush against the window. This is second time this has happen. Some inconsiderate person walks past the car and actually runs their fat butt up against the mirror and it folds against the car. There were no scratches and I opened up the mirror with the auto switch. BUT, when I was washing her yesterday I noticed the mirror was loose! I wiggled the drivers side for comparison and it was very tight. I then used the auto switch and folded and unfolded the mirrors numerous times and it seemed to have tightened up, equal to the drivers side.

Now I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to close them anytime I'm parking? The only other time I've used this feature has been when pulling up too close at a drive-up window, when being approached from behind by a truck or SUV at night, and once when the sun was shining in it one morning. Do you think would cause the motor/cable to wear out too soon?

if it was pushed closed, you should push it open. i've done it while washing and just pushed it back.

Has anyone ever had any problems after accidentally pushing their automatic mirrors to the point that they close? I remember reading somewhere in the manual that this should be avoided. Whenever I accidentally do it, I semi-freak out worroying that I might have caused some damage, but nothing bad has ever happened thus far.

I always use this feature. I think it's cool, plus why have it if you don't want to use it. I just wish the button was in a more accessible/convienient location.

I don't need a better location, I just think it would be nice if it had an auto switch that would close them when I take the key out. Hmm, I could probably built a circuit like that with a relay. Hmmm!

I close mine everytime to keep it routine so if I ever do park buy a car I won't forget to close the mirros. An automatic system would be great. Hope someone will make it.

I always close them when I park in any parking lot. I feel more comfortable with them closed so the cars next to me that are parked would have more room and would be less likely to hit my mirrors. It WOULD be very nice if you could program them to open and close when ever you start the car and turn the car off. Why couldnt nissan think of this???

Actually, if you close your mirrors, shut your car down and then put the mirror switch in "open", the mirrors will open when you start the car. I do this all the time--especially cool with the remote start.

I fold my mirrors everytime I park my car in my garage, if spots in a lot look too close, I will park the car someplace else, but still fold my mirrors.

one question about the power folding mirros, why does the button seem to have 3 settings, theres close, then the middle which seems to do nothing, and all the way up which is open....the third function should just set it to autofold everytime you get outa the car like the seat and steering wheele.

I just tried it. All the way down, the button closes the mirrors obviously. All the way up, it opens. The middle position does have a minor use. When you push the button down to close the mirrors, if you immediately push the button to the middle right after you try to close the mirrors, the middle position will hold its position without making them fold all the way in. So if the mirrors fold all the way open is too far out for you, you can fold them in a little bit and control the amount they fold in by pushing the button to the middle position after you push it to close them.

nuetral (middle) setting does have a function.
salesman said Nissan reccomends keeping it at that setting.

sooo, if u leave it on Open, it will constantly be telling the mirrors to open. same as close. the signal will remain active which isn't good.

but you have an idear right thur. sure someone could fab it up to have it as Auto.

um I see what your saying....but isnt that the point of the actual mirror itself moving and not the fixture?
